i hope this doesn't get moved to "work" as it's more a social issue.

is your workplace a social place?

i work i a pretty large, well know place, there'd be around 1000 employees at least.

it's quite diverse, lots of different departmnets, there'd be aound 80 in my department

for the most part, we're social enough (my department), the occasional work drink, we all pretty much get along.

thing is, i'm hear nearly 7 years, and there's people from other departments, who, i see all the time, but have no idea who they are, or what they do.

i'd only meet other people, from other departments, if it was related to work.

now there is a social club, gym, bar, but tbh, there's no real feeling of unity, just a load of different departments.

it would be really good if there was some sort of social event, that would give everyone a chance to get to know each other.

the christmas doo for instance. each department has it's own, this would be a perfect opportunity for everyone to get to know each other.

    basicly, is this the norm?

are you in the same situation?

or do you work in a large company, that has a really good social status.

should this be somthing that the head honcho's should be looking into, and if so, how would a meer minnion like myself go about suggesting this?

there's been a big staff moral push as of late, which is good, but it would be great if they organised a big doo, maybe even for charity, €50 a head or somthing.

    suggestions?

i'm friendly enough, and yes, i could just start randomly start introducing myself, but that's just not really done here, just alot of clicky groups, would just think it would be good to have some event where everyones guard is down.

I know what you mean. Sounds similar to where I work. Usually they pump alcohol into people at any excuse and it helps mingling... but yes people do stick with those they know and are comfortable with - human nature I guess. If not we would have no countries full with the majority of natives e.g. Ireland, Spain, etc.. any country really.

Why not organise a 5 a side charity football event, at least 1 girl per team? This may promote even more clicky-ness though.

Table quiz? Climb a mountain in groups randomly selected...i.e. 8 teams of 10 legging it up a mountain in a competition?

i know it's gas, i've seen the same little groups for years, and know nothing about em.

but if we were all involved in a social event, one with more interaction than a piss up, like a 5 aside, as you suggested, or kariokie (cheesy, but dam socialable and funny) then we'd at least have a laugh and get to know each other.

there was a 5 aside event, not too long ago, i was away, so i'm not sure how successfull it was, i'd imagine somthing less sporty would interest more people.

Set up a Fantasy Football league or something. Google it for more info. I'm sure you could work it in some way that their could be a manager of the month profile etc and a a little awards ceremony in the coffee corner :p

    Go-Karting is another great one.

    Treasure Hunt?

    Dublin(or where-ever) to somewhere cycle?

    Book club?

People profile send out each month detailing background of 2 or 3 people per month?
