    Hey All,

I have installed a few systems here and I want to keep track of service tags and product keys and such.

I ran a copy of magic jelly bean to find the product key on a system and it is different to that of the product key on the system case. These are new enough systems bought from Dell.

Does anybody know why these are different?

Standard image installs are done at the factory. Your license key in this instance is the one stuck to the chassis. This will work for a reinstall too.

AFAIK software auditing/compliance companies allow for this (OS only though), even the BSA.

    yep,
as long as whats installed = whats on the license sticker your fine.
most companies will have one key that they use for installs for the likes of win 2000 and office 2000.
