Emergency tax on first paycheck?

I've just started a new job, and I was supposed to have handed in my P45 yesterday but I;ve missed the deadline. As I've missed the date, will I get Emergency tax on my first pay cheque? I was told by a friend that the first pay cheque gets taxed normally, and only after that does the high emergency tax rate kick in.

The way my job works I get a large 'training bonus' in the first month, but don't want to get taxed on it at 42%/50%.

Can anyone clarify this for me?
    Thanks

I think your pay will be taxed but as soon as you're onto normal tax (ie next paycheque) you'll get the emergency tax back.
