Converting my Internal HD to an external one

    Hello everyone,

I promised a friend that I would mend their computer. She spilt water on it a while ago and failed to take the batter out, turn it off immediately or dry it out.

I am just hoping that the HD is working and so I would like to buy a cheap enclosure for it to convert it to an external drive. I know there are so many different types out there but I am hoping some of you could tell me the best USB type enclosure for a Toshiba 40GB MK4025GAS Laptop Hard Drive, its part number is HDD2190 and its dimentions are 0.37" x 2.75" x 3.94" (H x W x D).

I was going to clean the mother board with some absolute alcohol but would not like to do something like this if the HD is all she is interested in.

Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Any standard 2.5" hard drive enclosure off ebay will fit a laptop hard drive,I have one I got from ebay (A black one with Sony branded on it) and it does fine! search for 2.5" hdd enclosure on ebay!

I wouldn't bother with an enclosure for it yet, at least until you know its working. You might be better off getting a cheap 2.5" IDE adapter connector for it then slave it into a PC to see if its accessible in the first place.

Good idea...I'll price them in Peats and see if its worth buying the IDE adapter or the enclosure...afterall I'm not looking to spend big money on it either...at most 15 euro.

EDIT: Got an enclosure today, 15 euro in peats. their IDE adapters were 9 euro so I went the extra length and got the enclosure. Thank god the hard drive is still working, managed to access everything on it which is just want I wanted.

    Thanks for the advice!!
