    Why not drive it home?

My thoughts exactly, what better way of finding out how it's running. Also, join the AA and if you break down they will tow it home.
I'm not trying to do our new friends out of biz btw.

I'm going to echo everyone else here, join the aa with the slightly better package where they tow you home, drive it yourself, you'll have fun

I think the AA have some sort of clause that you can't use them to pick up a newly purchased car.

That said, I joined the week before and they flatbedded my car home from the customs warehouse no questions asked.

What i meant was join them in case the car gives up on the trip, not for the actual collection of it.

I don't think so - the AA cover you, not the car.

AA rescue plus will take you home.

NB. you must have joined rescue plus at least 48 hrs before you can call them ;)

i.e. take a tent a sleeping bag and your favorite classic cars magazine to be prepared to spend 49 hours by the side of the road :)
