    Hi,

I've just completed 3 chapters... and was wondering should I submitt this to a publishing company to review before writing any more?

A lot of people have advised this. Is this normal?

How do I go about submitting a novel to a publisher?

you just figure out which publisher to send it to depending on the genre of your novel. you do a little research - shouldn't take more than a few googles - and figure out which publisher would be best to submit your work to.

most publishers with websites will have a list of requirements for submission - guideline chapter sample, line spacing etc.

the best idea is to send a query letter first to your publishing house of choice. give them an outline of your novel, beginning - middle - And end (even if you havn't written it yet), and ask them anything you want to know and if they would like to read your manuscript.

otherwise, just get the address of the publishing house, print a copy of the first 3 chapters of your manuscript, write a synopsis, add a cover letter with a few details about yourself and maybe a little subtle justification for the novel's publication (a blurb), parcel it - make sure you pay the correct postage fee, and send.

they'll get back to you, good or bad, within a few weeks. they'll either tell you it's not right for publication by them and ask you if you want to arrange to retrieve the manuscript / or that it needs work and if they're interested they will give you some pointers / or they'll be so blown away by your obvious talent that they'll spend millions and sell the movie rights to the first hollywood studio that takes an interest.
