Currently have all my calls/bb etc with Eircon and now that Ive been hit with another €220 bill for 2 months I have to do something to cut down on call costs.Despite what Eircom keep telling me Im on their "cheapest" talktime package.

Anyway what I want to know:

1.If I change to buleface I can keep my existing landline number but my question is can I just keep paying eircom my line rental and broadband per month and make all my calls with blueface??

I reckon if I could do this then Id cut my call cost by more than half.
So Id be paying eircom my line rental(24.99) and my broadband (39.99 I think) and pay Blueface 14.99 pm for their package and since all my calls are to Irish landlines with the odd mobile thrown in here and there my total costs would be €80.00 pm.

2.I noticed somewhere that I may have to lose my BB and ask for a "reprovide"--What does this mean exactly??Does it mean I port to Blueface then lose my BB and have to reapply for it again??

3.If I cant do number 1--what are my options to get the cheapest Voip calls??

4.If I decide to do a Pay as you go package can I just buy a Voip phone, stay as I am with Eircom but cut my package with them down to just line rental and BB(ie get rid of the talktime package altogether) and make all my calls through Voip and just accept all incoming through my Eircom number?

Sorry for the long-winded questions :)
    Richie

You could keep your Eircom number and just switch out of their package (i.e. so you're not paying talktime rates - you're paying per call). Keep the number for incoming calls and put sellotape over the keypad so you don't use it :). You'll have to keep the line for broadband anyway so no harm keeping the Eircom number as a backup. You could then sign up for Blueface and get a new number/line for your VoIP service. Use this line for your outgoing calls.

I'd go with Dougals idea, not idea but if you go about porting your number to blueface you'll be without broadband for a few weeks while its being ported over afaik

get a dect phone, let all our incoming calls come in over your excisting eircom line, then make all your outgoing calls over a sip device and get blueface to mask your number so people still see your current number. Blueface isn't 100% reliable so its a good idea to keep your eircom line for incoming calls.

Just rang blueface and their opinion is to stay with Eircom and just pay them line rental and BB (like dougal says) and go for their "Summer Lovin" package which is €149.00 for a years worth of calls including equipment.

Looking at it realistically I could save 700-800 euros a year just by switching over to them.As well as that the idea of topping up online for mobile calls appeals to me as it may be an incentive to ring them less as those "odd" mobile calls thown in as I stated in my first post amounted to €56.00 last bill(ahem!!)

It may not be entirely appropriate to point this out on the VoIP forum, but you can get line rental, 2MB DSL broadband and unlimited free calls to Irish and UK landline numbers for €54/month, all in, from BTIreland.
