I've just finished watching the above movie tonight, and I have to say I've been fairly surprised. I'm not particuarly Catholic, so I'm coming at this from a fairly neutral position. The movie itself was very interesting, but obviously it was all geared around the actor in the main role, and I have to say I don't think they could have cast anyone more suited to the role. It's left me with a desire to learn a little more about the late pope and his beliefs and teachings.
In the movie he's portrayed as a very loving and understanding human, empowered with great tolerance and gifted with an abundence of charisma. I've not been inspired to be a better Christian or to go around preaching love and respect to my fellow man, but if the movie is anything to go by he was certainly an amazing individual and someone I'd like to learn more of. I'm going to see if I can pick up a biography in Waterstones or the likes.
