Problems with job agency...

I have a small problem at the moment. I am currently employed by an agency, working in what was meant to be a one month administration job. (for almost 2 months now)

My problem is that as grateful as I am that they found me a job, I am really not happy with the job as instead of doing administration as I was told I would be doing, I spend more time answering the phone. If I wanted to do that I would have gotten a job near my house in a call centre.

We have a receptionist but the calls for our office are always passed from her on to me. Is this a normal practice or is she meant to take the messages herself? I noticed that she does this more when the person is angry or upset.

ANYWAY... I have been trying to apply for other jobs online and most of the jobs I want to apply for/am suited to are advertised through the same job agency. So far all the applications I have sent to them have been ignored. They haven't replied to any of my emails or returned my calls regarding them.

Am I doing something wrong by applying for other jobs through them or are they just fobbing me off? I have worked in several jobs for them so far and have had good feedback from them all.

I have discussed with the manager here and he is advertising my current job soon so if I want it, I can apply. (I don't want it) I assume that means I am out of a job soon but have had no word from the agency and my employer cannot give me any definate dates.

I would apply for jobs through other agencies but I haven't found any that I wanted.

Sorry that was so long winded, just a bit fed up and worried. Advice please?

Hmm I'm no expert but I'd imagine that because you are plugging a hole for them now, they don't want to create problems for themselves by letting you move on as such.

If you have a ontact name just keep ringing, everying hour till you get the person and ask what the situation is.

I used a recruitment agency once in my life, never again, they have a whole other motive.

Yeah I think that is the case.... Why would they want me to move onto another job when they will get a big fat bonus if I stay here? I have a feeling that I would unexplicably not be chosen for interview even if I did get through. It would be more work for them if I leave because they'd have to find some other sucker to work here.

I think they are being very unprofessional, are they allowed to do that? "Force" me in a way to stay in this job by not allowing me to apply for others through their agency. Employers always look out for their own best interests and I have the right to look after mine I assume.

I just wanted to know if there is anything I can do? Maybe I should make a complaint about it.

Just use a different agency - search on www.jobserve.com for Dublin and whatever type of job sector you work in. You shouldn't feel tied or loyal to one... they will dump you like a hot potato no problem if they have to.
