Faulty Logic Board

Ok my last thread was about the problem I had with airport reception on my powerbook g4. After sending it to mactivate three times with this fault and its still not repaired, they diagnosed the logic board as faulty. The lower memory slot is also faulty. This is a very common problem with powerbooks having checked on the net. This particular model was recalled due to faulty screen which was replaced along with the catch under warranty. The hard disk also faulted but was out of warranty. So pretty much my powerbook that doesn't have a single scratch is completely faulty apart from the keyboard and speakers.

What do I do? Mactivate suggest I ring apple and try get them to replace it as the laptop is faulty. Obviously not out of warranty but having looked on the net.. all these problems only occur outside of warranty.

Sorry to hear, sound like a real lemon.

You could write a letter to apple explaining all that has happen so far with the laptop. If you write a nice letter there is a (slight) chance they might replace the machine for you. I've heard a few stories over the years that says this is worth a try.

Otherwise sell parts on ebay and buy new laptop.

I had a problem with memory to: it was a 512mb but the laptop only saw it as 128mb. I spoke to mactivate and they told me it was faulty logic board.
Someone put me on to www.applemacireland.com and they fixed me up grand nay bother try them.

What exactly did they do for you? I'm very interested to know.

Spoke with apple today and first guy was a prick pretty much. He said none of the repairs are listed under the serial number so I rang mactivate. They have all the original details as do I and they said apple are chancing their arm. He asked me to get a customer support rep to ring him and he would sort it. Next time I rang apple I got a very helpful guy and have to get mactivate to fax the details in the morning to apple. Hopefully should help. We own an ibook, powerbook g4 15" and a macbook along with many accessories etc and plenty of ipods so we're not happy with apple at all on this.

Seriously, do your own or work for this company? Your posts of late have been beyond reccomendation and are becoming downright pimping!

That’s just typical always put good service down personally I leave pimping to those who know more about it!
To answer I suspect your system will go away to be assessed, just be prepaired for a long wait thats all my friend.

Im not putting good service down, just extremely curious.

Most of your posts on this board of late have been about that same company but very vauge on details. Also, you seem to be quite knowledgeable about apple hardware and software so I thought it was interesting that suddenly you were reccomending a company.

Not looking for a flame war BTW, just curious :)

    I guess it's a coincidence.

@OP, id go with the stern letter to Apple approach tool. It would be fair to say that the laptop is a lemon.

Mactivate could have fixed the problem for me but I'm not paying around 700eur to replace a design fault. Not a hope
