Gunmen have abducted two journalists working for the US Fox News television channel in the Gaza Strip.

The two journalists are correspondent Steve Centanni and freelance cameraman Olaf Wiig, Fox News said.

The crew's Palestinian driver told security officials their car was stopped in Gaza City on Monday evening.

I wonder if the abducters know about Fox News and its pro-Bush and pro-Israeli stance; would this be a motive to their actions?

There's every chance that they just see them as western journalists but I think they might be more clued in on things in the US than seems likely... if it was Iraq I'd say that it was just a coincidence but abductions of innocent westerners aren't as common in Palestine as they are in Iraq so it may have been more considered.

Boy those kidnappers are going to be sorry. The detainees might have a portable DVD player and a copy of Ann Coulters' Greatest Rants!

    Mike.

Yeah that's what I was thinking too... Maybe a bit of research went into it.

Sky news had it on the breaking news text at the bottom of the screen that the camera man was Irish. That was earlier on this evening. Don't know if the report was accurate or not. They had very little information at the time.

If anything this kidnap is sure to inspire one of them once Fox cart her out of storage for it.

Will be interesting to see what happens next.

His name is Olaf Wiig so it's probably not the case, although you never know

Yeah was thinking that myself, doesn't sound very Irish, but can't really rule it out either. It was earlier on this evening when I seen it on sky and they hadn't much info at the time so it might not be the case.

Actually they could just air-drop Ann Coulter and Bill O'Reilly in. We could call them "Fox Force Five".

RTÉ is referring to them as foreign; perhaps Breakingnews got the initial info like sky and it turned out to be untrue?
I'm sure RTÉ would be reporting it by now if it were true.

That would only make four. We need another. Make it Sean Hannity.

Perhaps RTE are a bit slow. Or, maybe not...
A Fox employee in Gaza, who declined to give his name because he was not authorized to release information about the incident, said American reporter Steve Centanni and New Zealand cameraman Olaf Wiig were kidnapped.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/08/14/AR2006081401331.html

The kidnapped men are reporter Steve Centanni, a 60-year-old US citizen, and 36-year-old cameraman Olaf Wiig, from New Zealand.

Very interesting interview on Sky News with the 2 kidnapped journalists

10 minutes long, too, which is quite good. Really worth a look.
