Any suggestions as to where I can get good value in a decent external hard drive about 300 Gig or so?

    Online or in Ireland.

    Cheers

    Do-more. (do-less if you like I don't really give a toss!)

Komplett is probably your best bet, they also have an interaction forum located on boards here.

Aldi do good deals every now & again. Got 320gb for E150. Keep a check on the leaflet that comes thru door. You gotta be there on the morn or they'll be all snapped up.

    Cheers folks.

Looks like it's komplett then, unless someone can come up another suggestion.

(Can't wait for Aldi, but thanks KissMyThingy!)

Nah, maplins don't do decent prices on things, you must have been smoking something peculiar when you read the price tag.

Yeah they had a Seagate 320 on special a while back. Was a decent price. Unusual enough for them.

Thanks for that tempest, komplett are €150 for a WD 320GB, but are out of stock:(

Will probably not get to PC World until the weekend, looks like there or Maplins.

Its just personal taste but I'd prefer the Seagate drive over a WD. I find them more reliable.

Have you tried Crucial.com??? They kick Kompletts ass when it comes to memory vs. Price.

This thread is about hard drives, not RAM. And fyi, most of the RAM on Komplett is Crucial RAM. So it's common sense to cut out the middle man and go to Crucial direct.

Maplin sure are doing a special offer at the moment....€165 for a 300gb external drive ( seagate ) or also € 313 for a 500gb ( Western Digital ) one.

As was said above though they are generally pricey i was looking for a bluetooth dongle... they were sellingit for €32 and argos had one for €15 !!

By a seperate disk and an enclosure. Gives you more leeway with different disks and you can swop them around. I have a case full of hard disks and one enclosure and use them as I need. Also, should the disk fail, at least you're left with a bit more than an expensive paper weight.

Ebay has some great offers on external drives.

I bought off a store... (ebay id buy-new-age)

$120 for a 300GB Drive in a case and that includes postage. Now im living in Boston so I didnt have to pay for worldwide shipping but he does ship worlwide for $36. Hes got a load of them up there so you shouldnt have too much trouble finding one. Could end up saving yourself a few yoyo's with the exchange rate and all.

With drives, it nice to have a decent warranty on them. Regardless of where you get them.
