I received a call the other day asking if I could attend a job interview @ 9:15am on Tuesday 29th. Another company has since rang about a second job I applied for and asked if I would be available for an interview on the 29th (same day) at 11:45am. I mentioned that I had a consult coming down from Dublin that day and would it be possible to take a different slot on the interview day. She said she this might be difficult as the interviews are all in the morning, but if required she could check it out. I said I'd email back tomorrow.

So firstly if I took the 11:45am slot would that leave enough time?
Would I dent my chances if I hung on for an afternoon slot?

It would be great to have the 2 on the same day though as I can prepare a lot of stuff that would be applicable to the 2 jobs (even though they are completley different) and would just take 1 days holiday.

    Thanks in advance.

    ok.

    seriously.

how long is a piece of string?

how can anyone answer that question without knowing
    a) how long the interviews are
    b) how far apart they are
    c) how long it takes you to get between the two

    now.

why dont you answer your own question?

    Go for both of them

I would say it's cutting it too fine. Depends on how far apart they are & what type of interview you're talking about.

    I would think:
    - 9:15 could easily start 10-15 mins late
    - 1hr interview could easily stretch to 1 1/2 if there's alot of discussion (good sign usually!)
    - you'll want to turn up 10mins early for the next interview.

Also to give yourself the best chance for each interview, you'll want some time go get your head in gear.

    Guesswork:

    9.15 Interview one
    11.15 Finishes
11.16 TAXI. Expensive, but you won't get there in time with a bus.
    11.45 Interview 2

If you're late for the 2nd one, blame the taxi, but see if you can go as late as possible for the 2nd one as possible. Even an extra hour.

WWM I've given you as much info as I have which is start times for each interview. Both locations are about 15 mins apart. I have not been given a duration time for interview 1 (have never received a duration time for any interview I have ever been invited to).

Thanks for the replies. I think it would be cutting it fine and interviews are nerve racking enough without worrying will I make interview 2 in time.

I think I'll ring back interview 2 and follow on with the "consultant coming down from Dublin" and I'll ask for an afternoon slot.

The longest interview I have ever had was an hour. The shortest was 20 minutes. The average interview is about 20-30 am I right? It really depends on yourself.

Just accept both and if your running late give them a quick call. if there 15 minutes apart I think you have loads of time IMO

Good luck in the interviews btw :D

Thanks Gooner. Jesus I wish my adverage interview was 20 mins. Adverage for my industry would have been between 1-2 hours.

Totally depends on the job. I had an interview once that lasted at most ten minutes. Another lasted nearly 90 minutes - we were just getting on well and chatting (I got that one).

If they're fifteen minutes apart (at most) dave, I'd say you'd have plenty of time.
    First interview: 9.15am.
    Interview starts: 9.30am.
    Interview ends: 10:45am (Latest)

Loads of time to spare. Even with delays all over the shop, you have 45 minutes to play with. I don't think it would do any harm in interview 1 to mention (if it's running late) that you have a consult (or a doctor's appointment or *something*) at 11.30. Although, as you mention, interviews are bad enough without having to sit there worrying whether you'll make the next one.

LoL. I've work as a technician, Engineer and now as a training specialist and adverage interview duration for all 3 (for me anyway) would have been at least an hour.

Thanks Seamus. Have left a viocemail saying that a training consultant is visiting on that day and could I request a slot in the afternoon. Hopefully it'll be ok. I have being awkward though for an interview but better the be a bit awkward than late.
