Stolen Honda CBR600f

I've recently moved to Dublin from the UK and after being here fro 3 months decided to bring my CBR 600 over. I had it here a week, went to work on morehampton road and left my bike in the driveway of the place were I work. Between 1.30 and 5.30 some scumbags either broke the steering lock and wheeled it away or lifted it into a van and drove away.

I hadn't locked it to anythign as I didn't think that I would need to do so in the driveway of a house on busy Morehampton road. I reported it to the gard but they didn't seem to take a huge amount of interest.

The bike is red, white and purple with a luggage rack fitted, red break and clutch handles and was on an English plate R178HDW. The bike also has some light scuffing to the left side indicator, wing mirror and fairing. If anyone knwos anyhtign I'd appreciate a shout

It's data tagged and watermarked but I guess I'm never going to see it again. I'm more than a little peturbed. Any advice as to anyhting I coudl do woudl be greatfully received

Same thing happened to me a few years back. These cumbags will take it to a secluded location and strip it down for parts. I'm sorry to say this but i'm certain you won't see it again.

I would suggest you email all of the Honda dealerships in Dublin just in case some one spots it.

What's the best way of ensuring that my bike is hard to nick in future. I have an Oxford disc lock and and oxford monster lock. If i put disc lock on the front and the monster lock on the rear wheel and make sure it's attached to something solid is there anything else I can do?

I have disc lock at the front, big f*ck off chain at the back, alarm + pager (if it ever beeps I'm running down with a baseball bat!). Other than that I don't see what I can do... Maybe another big f*ck off chain? Might do that...

Rule of thumb in Ireland is if its not locked down it'll be knicked, simple as that.

There's a couple of nice bikes in the place I work and the only one thats locked is mine. The lads don't seem to think that they need a chain for some reason.

I wouldn't be able to do any work myself if I knew it wasn't locked to something solid.

    Alarm
Galvanized Steel chain + lock (roughly €100 each). Theif would need a blowtorch or an angle grinder to remove them which most don't carry.

When locking the bike wrap the chain around the wheel to stop it being moved. Second thing you can do it is to lock the frame to a sturdy object like a lampost.

If you need a new bike I know a load of Honda Dealers in Dublin I might eb able to help you out on a nice price.

I'm looking for a new CBR600, not brand new but one that has an alarm and immobiliser. Any advice and help would be much appreciated.

If you go to Irishbikerforum.com and then to its adverts section up the top. There are two fireblades for sale. Might be worth your look. Or click on this link

Sorry to hear about the bike though. It really is crap when it happens. They should be strung up by the nuts. But you never know. I have heard of people getting their bikes back like a year later when some knack kills him-self on it.

Dogs box has a few cbr600s for sale, he buys a lot of clean stuff too, so they'd be in good nick Link: http://www.cbg.ie/dogsbox/

I'd buy a new bike in the uk if i were you. It'll be cheaper and generally in better condition than here.
Insure it in the uk too if you can, unless you feel like being robbed again.

An Irish resident's bike must be registered, taxed and insured here.
Lying about where you live just means the insurer can walk away from a claim.

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

True. But there are insurances that do not mind insuring abroad. I had 2 French cars in Ireland and both were insured in France and they knew I resided and worked in Dublin. Didn't bother them as long as the vehicles were registered in France.
