Citizen Aqualand Batteries

    Hi Folks,
Just looking to pick some brains. I need a battery for a Citizen Aqualand and was wondering if anyone has had one fitted and by who?
I asked in H Samuel in Liffey Valley and they want €58 to send it to England, yet Coby Jewellers in Clondalkin will fit one for €8.
H Samuel also said that they need to be pressure tested and the guy in clondalkin said that as long as the O ring was fine, then I had nothing to worry about. Also, is it possible to change the setting from imperial to metric?
    All help welcome.

try ringing some of the dive shops as they might be able to presure test it for you if you get the guy in clondalkin to replace the battery

These are the actual Citizen Service Center for Ireland. I have used them and found them excellent. The service costs will include postage. Do not give the watch in anywhere else if you wish to dive with it. Just phone them and they will explain how to get the watch to them. Let us know how much they charge you

    Cheers Woodenhead,
Gave them a call, they are charging €30 for the battery and test and will let me know how much for the software change.

Unfortunately it is not possible to change your watch from imperial to metric - it is not a software issue, Citizen actually uses different movements for their imperial and metric watches.

I just dealt with this company & the service was top class. I left in the watch yesterday at 4pm & collected it at 11am today-new battery & pressure tested to 5.1bar (checked the dive log!) .

just as a follow up, Celtic tiger how are ya in 2011 !!!

That crowd in Shannon want (and are getting) €72 PLUS VAT to replace the battery, reseal and pressure test (cause it costs more to test it to a deeper pressure apparently :eek: )

Oh and its taken 4 weeks to get it done too, and thats after numurous calls chasing it !!

and to add insult to injury, I enquired about a replacement strap and they have gone ahead and sent one back to the jewellers where I left the watch in and told them it costs €40

Now is it just me or are they taking the piss !!!!

If I remember correctly I was charged €40ish & there was no BS about pressure testing-I picked up a replacement strap on ebay for €10 recently. You are right-time to shoot the Celtic tiger!!

when did you get yours done ?
did you go directly to the company involved or was it via a jewellers ???

    @Benny-c,
any idea who you got your strapfrom on ebay, most of the american ones on ebay I can find at the mo are charging about €25 for the strap and bout the same for shipping :eek:

incidentally, I collected my watch today and the lady in the shop never mentioned the extra €37.12.
She took one look at the receipt and saw I had already paid €50 upfront and that was it
So it actually cost me €50 in total and NOT the €72 plus VAT they said it would last night.

starting to wonder if there was a scam on so, didnt see ANY extra charges marked on any of the paperwork she had with the watch !!!

    2009 was the last time.
Yeah, just send it straight to Calcul in Shannon in future, don't mess about with a middleman.

So effectively, you came on here bad mouthing Calcul as being rip off merchants when actually you got your quote from a middleman, not from Calcul, and in the end they didn't even charge that much anyway.

It was the jewelers who told me it was Calcul that were quoting that price because they werent allowed open the watch
and if you actually check the date I posted my first post about this, it was BEFORE I collected the watch and AFTER I got quoted €72 plus VAT

maybe a read of ALL the details first before having ago ??

Oh, and just for the purposes of fairness, when I last rang Calcul myself about a battery for the watch the quoted me €110 for the work !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,143 ✭✭✭locum-motion

    So, according to you, MrTrebus:
    Calcul (directly) quoted you 110.
A middleman told you that Calcul were quoting 72+VAT.
But, as it happened, neither of those prices were correct, and you got charged 50.
This just doesn't add up. No company quotes a price that's over twice its usual well established price for something, and then proceeds to charge a lower price afterwards.
The 110 (and 72) quotes must have been for some other service. Either you misunderstood what they were quoting, or they misunderstood what you were asking for a quote for.
Or am I way off base here?

    @locum-motion

    What's to misunderstand ??

all I wanted was the battery replaced.
Because it's a promaster dive watch it "must" be replaced, resealed and pressure tested by a citizen dealer ONLY !!

Feel free to contact either fields jewelers ( where I left the watch ) or calcul themselves and ask them the price !

Fields charged me €50 then called me to say they couldn't do the work and to send it onto calcul it would cost a total of €72 plus vat .
When I collected the watch,I had a receipt saying I had already paid the €50 but there was no mention on her paperwork of any additional charges!

On the previous occasion of getting the battery changed I rang calcul directly and they quoted €110 !
That's why I went to fields

In the interest of fairness to Calcul Int:

I got a new battery fitted the Watch (Citizen Aqualand) & was pressure tested, dropped it in to them on Monday & picked it up today(Wed) & was charged €25.

Also: to be fair to Calcul Int:

Have an Aqualand that has been sent to them 3 maybe 4 times, most recent last year. Don't remember exactly, 38 or 39 Euro.
Excellent service, new battery, tested and back in same week.
