Dual boot partition question

    Hi Folks,
I currently have 10.4.7 on an Intel iMac but would like to Dual boot with my new Leopard Dev Preview.
This obvisouly means having to partition the hard drive, but when I try to partition the disk, Disk Utility won't let me - I'm presuming this has something to do with the fact that I"m trying to partition the sole disk partition, which contains the OS which is currently in use.
Is there a way for me to partition the disk without having to format and start from scratch?

I should also mention, that at the same time, I'm also going to create a third partition and install XP via boot camp. Are there any issues I should know about?
I'm not familiar with messing about with multiple OSs and partitions etc on a Mac (ok with PCs though), so any help/advice would be welcome.

    Cheers,
    S.

On Tiger it is not possible to repartition the harddrive without reformatting and thus reinstalling. There are tools out there that allow you to resize your partition all right, but they're not free. Demos I used did not reveal a good usability anyway. So ultimately this means that you have to wipe it all, reinstall and create the partitions you need in the setup with Disk Utility. Once Tiger and Leopard are on, you can go ahead and install Windows. If you don't like what you see, you can always at least remove the Windows partition with Boot Camp.

You can access the Mac's boot manager by holding down ALT after the start up chime.

Hmm, I thought was much. Anyways, everything's wiped now. :)

bootcamp will allow you to non-destructively repartition.

Failing that, you can use ccloner to backup to an external HD. Destructivly repartition, restore and install boot camp and subsequent OS.

How unstable is the dev version of Leopard? I was thinking of installing it, but was worried about compatibility issues with Tiger software and just general bugginess and crashes. Anyone using it?

I haven't had any crashes yet at all. Still early days though.
I certainly wouldn't run it as a single OS though.
