    any tax savy people here?

hi, i claimed for the med 1 a few years back, and got a cheque in the post.

i recently got my eyes lasered, and sent off the med 1, this was around 3 months ago, so i emailed them to ask what the story was.

they said i'd get it back in tax credits!

tax credits aint gonna help the dent on my credit card.

does this mean that i'll be paying a little less tax, over a year, at the begining of the next tax year?

i've mailed em, but they're not getting back to me.

you can't claim tax back until the end of the year. presumably if you try to claim it back during the year they give you credits, so you pay less tax this year.

Your employer gets a new certificate of tax credits and adjusts your tax for the remainder of the year, so you should notice your net pay go up slightly.

You'll get a bigger paycheck spread out over the rest of this year....not as handy as a cheque but what can you do?:(

Yep, if you claim for previous tax years you get a cheque. If you claim for the current tax year you get tax credits.

i honestly think that's so the govt doesn't have to give money back to the people who die during the year

I got dental work done this year and when I enquired from Revenue, they said I could not send in my Med 1 claim until I had received my P60 for the current tax year ie next Feb/March. Is this correct? as it appears to be different for the OP.
