if it doesnt show up in bios its defiantly screwed. Did you have active cooling on it?

Restart and press F8 to get the startup menu, select Command Prompt from there, try typing fixmbr.

I know your p*ssed off with OCUK, because your Conroe didn't arrive on time, but you dont need to complain about them in every thread you post to!!! Do you have to automatically assume that he bought if off them just so you can slag them off??

Try building a bridge and getting over it and give the bloke so decent help instead of slating a company!

Sorry for jumping in on the thread with this, but im just sick of reading PogMoThoin's rants on OCUK for every thread he posts to! [/end of my rant]

Just to point out if this thread degenerates into a OCUK debate I'll ban. Back On Topic please. You've all been warned.

Awhir - tbh mate it sounds like it's dead. Sorry for your loss, it's a bitch when any drive fails. Did you have any cooling on it? Mine seems relatively happy, but it does have a 120mm fan blasting straight onto it.

Did you try unplugging the power and SATA interfaces from the drive, then repluggin them back in?

Raptors are incredibly reliable drives normally, but active cooling is absolutely required for a drive that runs that hot. It's running at 10,000rpm after all. You should RMA directly with Western Digital. I'm sure they'll replace the drive.

You should RMA directly with Western Digital.

    ^Bingo!

Depending on how important the info is on the disk, you could use knoppix to retreive it. If its very important this could be risky though and you could make a bad situation worse.

After you have copied the data you need, run the WD diags and request an RMA.

Of course, it could be dogdy RAM that has knackered the MFT. Only the diags will tell you to a reasonable degree of certainty. Again though, unless the data n the drive isn't critical, dont run diags until after you have gotten your data off.

BIOS -> Load optimised defaults. If that doesnt work reinstall os. Its happened to me on a Spinpoint which im on now.

talk to steven spielberg..he should be able to clone you a new one :D

p.s. try reinstalling..windows will avoid bad sectors when installing xp

Daemon tools has also been know to rightly f*ck with Windows storage devices. You never responded if the drive is picked up in the BIOS or not?

Is the raptor making clicking noises, like bad ones :(
Try the OS re-install like other people have suggested but I would also make it priority to test each of your sticks of ram using memtest for at least 6 hours each.

People here are saying raptors run hot but mine is actually cooler than any of my other hdd and its also in one of those OCuk Sillentmaxx hard drive enclosures which pushes temps up if anything

Got dodgy raptor ere myself with new build. Wouldn't even post with it in. Makes clickin noises. Alls fine when i remove it. Have installed os on other hd now till i rma it. Didn't get to set up raid 0 after all. Will try it out in other pc later just to make sure its fcuked before i rma.
