So i finally upgraded from an AMD XP 2500+ with 512mb of ram and a 9600pro. It was a sturdy beast. It managed to transcode music at about 15x realtime (maybe a bit less). It could run games, so long as you didn't want to alt-tab too much and left the details on medium/low. Not too shabby.

But i decided on a Core 2 duo, with 2 gigs of ram. And a snazzy x1600XT. So the parts arrived, i hooked em all up (amazingly enough i didn't break anything!) and booted her up. First thing i did was overclock her gently, from 266 mhz fsb to 305. I don't want to explode it just yet :p

60-65x realtime music transcoding now and she alt-tabs like a beast! Now, this will last me the next 3-4 years, except for a GFX upgrade in about 18 months :p

The only annoying thing is the motherboard only came with 1 IDE controller, and i have 2 IDE harddrives and one IDE DVD burner  Anyone care to donate an IDE controller card?
