Question about the Intel Core Duo processor

Right, first of all, if this is supposed to be the fastest processor, then how come sometimes I see it listed at only approx. 1.66GHz, whereas the Pentium M can get higher than that? Is the 1.66MHz just for each of the processors so in actual fact the duo processor could get up to twice that speed?

And why do I see different Core Duo processors listed at different speeds? For example on the Compaq Presario laptop, it's listed as 1.66GHz but on the Dell XPS, it's listed at 2.16GHz. Are they just different models of the processor, or does the speed it can reach depend on the other hardware in the machine?

Also, take care that the Core Duo is basically 2 Pentium M cores in one processor.
The Core 2 Duo is the fastest processor around
And yes, a Core Duo/C2D @ xGhz means that both cores are running that at xGhz.

I've just asked this same question in another thread, but seeing as we're on the point, I'll ask it here now as well;
Is the Code Duo 2 available on many laptops? Cos I don't remember seeing it in any of the specs I've been checking out (price range 1000-1300 euro). Then again, I might have just mistaken it for a Core Duo seeing as I didn't even know the Core Duo 2 existed!
Is there really much point holding out for a Core Duo 2? the only reason I'd be looking for speed in my laptop would be for the Football Manager game, so it'd hardly make much of a difference which I get? Or would you advise to go for the Code Duo 2?

If you need your laptop right away buy one , other wise wait until core 2 comes
out and even wait longer until you HAVE to buy one. Thats kinda what Im doing.

Core 2 isnt really out yet. I seen one site which was letting me pre-order.

you will be talking xmas time for the C2D just get a core duo, i have one t2300 ( 1.66ghz ) 1gb ddr2. and nvidia 6400 graphics. and it playes games fine. css .fear. oblivion ( at reduced details )

Chances are it will only be the top-notch laptops that will have the C2D anyway yeah? You'd hardly get it on a laptop that costs no more than 1200 Euro for a while?

Depends on OEMs really; you can't answer those questions that easily.
