Is it true that if an irish license holder is stopped by the police in the north for a driving offence, e.g speeding, provisional license, they automatically arrest you?

Would that mean you would have a criminal record?

they don't arrest you but you will have to pay bail. They'll escort you to an ATM to get money out and then to the station to pay the bail or some stations take credit cards i think. The bail will then cover a speeding fine for example.

I do know of people who have been held on remand for speeding until someone came and bailed them out.
