Just thought i'd start a new thread. Since we are talking about some old races and machinery, i thought it would be a good idea if people just listed some of their favourite races they have seen and then the greatest race they have seen, be it on old videos before they were born etc etc. If not, just delete the thread.

In recent Memory, for my favourite it would have been, Nurburgring 99 or else Spa 98.
Looking back at old clips of the two Ferraris chasing down the Jordan on the straight after Eau Rouge, the rain flying in the air, the yellow Jordan of Hill leading the way. Almost brings a tear to my eye. Thats one of my favourites, the greatest, I'll have to ponder that a bit longer, but if anyone has any suggestions, please post. Thank you.

Spa 95 always comes to mind for me, when Michael won from 16th on the grid and particularly the way he drove in the rain on slicks. Some great racing aside from that too, there was a huge number of race leaders in the first half of the race as he was coming through the field.

Spa 98, as you mentioned. Spain 96, Monaco 96 was another interesting one. Pretty much any wet race really!

To pick a dry race, Canada 95 perhaps, it was great to see Jean Alesi take that win! Hungary 97 for the comedy value on the last lap :) Sepang 99, great to see Michael back and in brilliant form. Very few dry races in recent years seem to really stand out in my mind though, lots of good ones but nothing amazingly memorable.

Ah now, that was cruel! Even I wanted Hill to win that one! He did manage to drag that heap of a car around in a fairly competent and admirable fashion (may have been something to do with the Bridgestones). I liked spa 98 and Brazil 2003 (or was it 2004?) when Fizzy won and everyone else thrashed their cars. Barcelona '96 was a misty eyed affair too. Can't remember many other stormers but that's more to do with the ageing brain than anything else.

Nurburgring 95 was the first race that jumped into my mind, again wet weather, Schumacher vs Hill for the title, looked like Jean Alesi had the race in the bag but Michael drove IMO the finest race of his career to somehow chase him down from nowhere to win that one by taking the lead with a couple of laps remaining.... that performance virtually won Schumacher the title that year despite not wrapping it up until the next race. That race great stuff and hooked me on motor racing.... I really should be more greatful for some of Michael's performances since I moan about him as person so much!

If I was to choose a dry race from memory I'd would go for San Marino last year. Intriguing race, Alonso holding off Schumacher, very tense and from the race on you realised that Alonso was the real deal!

Worst race..... I think you can take your pick from 7 or 8 this season already

Yeah Hungary 97, forgot bout that one, Hills Arrows... i can still remember shouting Nooooooo, really unfair,

Spa 95, great choice, you can see why Hill claimed Schumi was using a banned driving Aid.... Alesi's win was cool too, shame he hadn't had a couple more.

Both the Suzuka races where Senna collided with Prost, kept us talking for months, and years to be honest.

Another great one, Senna in Monaco in 1992, Mansell chasing him down after the late pit for tyre, that was edge of the seat stuff, especially him collapsing after the race. phewwww.

There has been some good day races though... just not many come to mind, as its the wet ones that causes alot of accidents which makes us remember the wet ones.

In 1993 it was hilarious watching this at Suzuka :)

Japan 1994, in the rain. Shuey vs Hill, Hill wins reducing champion points delta to 1 pt. And Mansell vs Alesi was awesome battle too!

Monaco 92 was great, Senna holding off Mansell who had fresh tyres and a way quicker car.
Suzuka 05 was a great dry race.
Barcelona 96 was great, probably Schumis finest win.
Barrichelos recent Silverstone wet/dry win was awesome too.

For comedy value it would have to be Suzuka 98 or 99 when Schumi buckled under pressure and stalled on the grid, leaving Mika to clinch the title.

Worst races its got to be the 'staged' dead heat at Indy, or most dry races these days.

    Worst race? Hmmm

    Indianapolis 6-car start

1977 Kyalami GP when Tom Pryce ran into a marshall on the main straight, killing himself and the marshall instantly

1994 San Marino GP - worst of all time

    Worst Race?

Imola, 1994. The race I remember most vividly
The US "Race" of 2005 did nothing to win over the US fans.

    Best?
    Spa 1998
    Inter Lagos 2003

Another good race was silverstone 99. I don't want to sound biased against schumi fans, but him breaking a leg led to a great season with Hakkinen, Irvine and Frentzen. Although, if Schumacher hadn't crashed, it could have been an even better season between Hakkinen and Schumacher, Nurburgring 99 could have been so much better, and that was a brilliant race as it was. ooooh, what was and what could have been

I completely lost interest in 99. The championship turned into 'who can mess up the least' once Michael was out of the picture, the two top teams performed so poorly in the mid season that Frentzen nearly snuck in and nabbed the title.
I was away during Nurburgring that year though, saw it with commentary in Spanish and it just seemed like random chaos. Maybe it would have been more interesting if I had a better idea of what was going on.
