Just noticed on the last Cardplayer chip count for Gold and Wasicka that they dont add up to 87million:

    Jamie Gold $78,975,000

    Paul Wasicka $11,225,000

Thats a total of 90,200,200, whereas there were 8773 entries giving a total of 87,730,000. So where did the extra chips come from? Would 2.5million chips be added for all the 'colour-ups'? Or are Cardplayer just being stupid again?

    From Pauly's blog:
1:00pm... Michael Craig said that there's $2.41M in extra chips on the final table. Where did they come from? Some are dead stacks like Minh Nguyen's snafu. Some are color ups. And some are chips stolen from other tournaments and introduced into the main event.
I'm trying to find out what "Minh Nguyen's snafu" was.

AFAIK during the dinner break of some tournament, Minh Nguyen and some of his "students" were found, or allegedly found, with tournament chips in one of their rooms, presumably to move them between each other. Don't think any of them were found guilty though.

btw Jammy Gold had them up his sleave! :p

Apparently there were also some players blinded out in Day 1A and then allowed to play again in day 1D (due to a Harrah's Fcuk up on Day 1A) and that also added in a few, but no where near 2.5m...

The Chip Races were like a military operation ... millions raced up it mite change it by a bit ... big difference all the same ....

presume the chip races contributed a maximum of one chip of the higher chip for each table in operation at the time of colour-up. Nowhere near 2.5 million gained from that.

Extra chips from chip races are calculated here (should be very small): http://hgfalling.livejournal.com/56504.html

He thinks they came from the main event super-satellites where they used identical chips.

there must have been quite-pandemic cheating if that is the case.

are the chips not counted after the satellites? also would you buy into a satellite knowing the chips were the same having already qualified? i dount anyone would admit it but its strange nonetheless its able to happen

Did they take into account the extra players who say down once play had started on 1abcd,
If it was 50 a day or 5 extra tables a day that would make 2million.

    From Iggy's blog

"Someone asked about this on RGP and the ever-knowledgable Oliver Tse gave this informed answer:

    Re: WSOP payout confusion

    1. 6% of the prize pool were withheld: 3% as house fee, 3% for the tournament staff as toke.

    2. There were some extra "dead stacks" in play because a number of players did not show up to the Main Event. Some of the "dead stacks" got their buy-ins refunded because of documented medical reasons (i.e. death in the family, serious illness requiring hospitalization, etc.) Those "dead stacks" that couldn't play due to being underage did NOT get their refunds.

    3. The color-up process always introduces extra chips into play.

    When in doubt, ask Oliver."

Andrew Leonard found out 30minutes before day 1a that he was starting after getting emails telling him he was day 1d.
There were 3 dead stacks on my table on day one and Im sure those players were allowed play on day 1d so if there were 3 fcuk ups on my table alone it may well come to 2.5m

A lot of those were found and removed Oscar though some werent. I'd say its a combination of a lot of those things. Also, people like James Garner (80+ star of The Rockford Files and Maverick) played and werent sponsored by a site. I can be damned sure that he didnt pay in himself and even surer that Harrahs didnt put his buyin in the pot.

The fact that the satelite the night before was using the same chips is bananas too...
