I have the latest version of Abobe reader (7.0.8 I think) on my mac and it works fine.

I had a problem where PDFs wouldn't print from my Mac, but they print fine from Preview.

You probably know this already, but if you hold down ctrl and single-click on an item on the desktop or in a folder, you're presented with a menu including "Open with...", and you can then choose what app to use to open it.

You can also set a particular app as the default to open files of that type by pressing cmd-i (apple-i) for the Get Info dialogue on any item's icon on desktop or in folder, and setting the app of your desire there.
