    Hi,

I'm going to be doing a 35mm photography course in October and was just wondering what camera bodies you guys would recommend? At the moment I'm using the EOS 20D so I'd like to get something along those lines.

Now, I don't know too much about EOS 35mm bodies but a quick look on ebay shows up a few like EOS 33, 3, 5 which are all fairly reasonably priced by the looks of things.

So which body would you guys recommend?

I used to have a canon EOS 3 camera it was excellent, if you can get on cheap buy it, these cameras are more in line with the digital canon 1d series.

The 20d would be the equivalent of an EOS 30/33 film body.
The 30 having the added bonus of 7-points eye-controlled autofocus. (sounds like a gimmick but works very well).

The EOS 3 is a semi-pro model, better built, faster winder and 45-points eye controlled autofocus.

The EOS 5 is the 3's predecessor, at this stage, the price difference with the 30 or 3 doesn't make it appealing, imho.

    hope that helps.

EOS 3 is a lovely camera.
EOS 30 has the eye controlled autofoccus too.

Either would make a lovely addition.

Another good site for comparing the various EOS models:

I've never used the eye autofocus thing on the Canon cameras, but a friend of mine has the camera and hates it. He keeps it permanently turned off because as he was checking composition and framing the focus was constantly shifting and annoying him.

This doesn't mean it's a bad camera by any means, it's just worth bearing in mind that some gimmicks might not be worth basing your decision on.

Excuse me Enygma for hopping on your thread. I was looking at second hand EOS on ebay and spotted the following cameras:

    EOS 300V - cheap price
    EOS 50 - mid prices
    EOS 30 - a bit dearer

300V a bit basic? Worth paying the extra for the 30?

    Opinions?

Depending on your budget the EOS 3 is a fantastic camera.
Otherwise my personal choice would be the 30 then the 50.

Has anybody bought a second-hand camera from the USA via ebay? What's the deal with customs/vat?
