Temporary camera's have been placed on the South Link (between Kinsale Rd R'about and Tunnel) in Cork. Bascially they just seem to be camera's at the end of a pole. Anyone familiar with the above? Are they actually speed camera's?

They sound like traffic management cameras. You see them on the M50 etc. Got any pics? With the amonut of tailbacks lately due to works I wouldnt be surprised.

Traffic management camera is what they are.

They used to be used on the N7 to give the travel time, http://www.n7.ie/.

They are also all over the M1.

They can easily be used in the future to record the reg between too points to work out speed, but aren't used for that at the moment.

This sort of technology has been discusses on boards.ie in the past.

Yea I thought they were something like that. I have no pics but as far as I can remember they are not that far off the ground (only a few feet).

I was curious because a mate of mine rang the local Garda Station and was informed that they were indeed speed camera's.
