This is on now on Channel 6.

I never saw the film but went to see the play and I thought is was excellent.

I'm pretty sure Peter Fonda got an oscar for it.

Anyhoo... if anyones reading this STOP and GO WATCH IT.

Wholeheartedly agree. Brilliant film. And play. Although the two are pretty much interchangeable. The film is very play-like in feel. Henry Fonda by the way. Pete's his babby. ;)
Henry didn't actually win an Oscar for that role - not that his performance wasn't Oscar-worthy. The film was nominated for a best pic all right.

great performance all round from some notable holywood player of the time , not just fonda, we had Ed Begley Sr., Jack(tvs odd couple and Quincy) Klugman, Jack Warden recently deceased. and the one and only Lee J. Cobb
they designed the set, to have the walls move closer in slowly just like the screen play so as to heighten the tension.

Weird. Some TV listings stated that Channel 6 were showing the remake of the film instead of the original. And the Channel itself seemed to be unclear about which one they were showing for a while.

    Sloppy Channel 6.

    Good film though.

It really is one of the greatest movies ever made. If I'm ever talking to people who don't appreciate old films, or that think that black and white movies are all boring, I show them Twelve Angry Men. It does the trick every time. Absolutely ingenius script, and good ensemble work is always hard to come by. This is the finest ensemble piece there is, in my opinion.

Did you guys ever notice the bit with the sweat and juror #4? I didn't notice it myself until the third or fourth time I watched the movie, so don't feel bad if you haven't noticed what I'm referring to. If you don't know what it is I won't give it away, but it is one of the cleverest things I have ever seen in any movie. Watch it again and pay very close attention to juror #4 with
    regards to sweat.

Classic "decent liberal turns the mob" movie you just know Fonda will prevail if only cos its Fonda and not lets say Lee J Cobb in the lead.

    Mike.

Love this film, one of my favourites of all time. Have it on DVD, seen it a dozen times before, and still watched it again when C6 showed it.

Outstanding cast - Fonda gets most credit, but the likes of Martin Balsam, Lee J Cobb, EG Marshall, Jack Warden and Ed Begley all deserve mentioning too. Hell, all twelve of them deserve it.

I know the "sweating moment" from Juror No. 4 that you're talking about. Nice and subtle moment. So many great moments in that film. I actually well up a little every time a juror changes his vote.

That's the main reason I tuned into it the other night, wanted to see how well Danza did with it. It's a great film though, have seen it a good number of times, but once I tuned in, I couldn't switch off.

Not very Christmassy is it? ;)

I think it's quite obvious the kid did it. I wouldn't have changed my vote.

One of my all time favorites also. Only two character names are used - on the steps at the end, Joseph Sweeney introduces himself as McArdle and Fonda introduces himself as Davis.

(It's often cited as one of the few films with no females in it but there is a girl in the corridor outside the courtroom at the start while the judge is summing up)
    juror #4?
    played by EG Marshall

As Lee J Cobb says ..."and put him in the chair where he belongs" :D

This is a great film alright. I love these type of films almost completely contained in one room. It's totally ageless to as well someone could make the film now almost word for word and you wouldn't know the difference.

    Savage Film

It is indeed one of the greats. To me anyways.
I love it (and a reason why I think its a classic, besides being a great film) is the steadfast use of standard movie tricks/techniques at the time. Ones still used today. Simple Visual and Sound all geared towards telling the story and getting across the tension and heat etc. And I don't mean the dialogue. Even down to the tick tock'ing of the clock. If you look at the film "back ground" while watching it you can easily see what I mean. Like the sweat mentioned above. On one level it is very obvious yet on another it is subconcious.

    Great flick.

I think it's quite obvious the kid did it. I wouldn't have changed my vote.
There was nothing like enough reliable evidence in order to prove that the kid did it beyond reasonable doubt, in my opinion. The witness reports had been disputed effectively and the only remaining evidence was circumstancial. To find him guilty on such grounds would be wholly irresponsible.

I think the kid probably did do it, but the whole point of the movie is that you can't convict on "probably" - you have to be absolutely sure.

This really is one of the must watch films of all time. Amazing study on the human being and group mentality. A Simple set 12 men and the walls close in as the film moves along to make it look and feel more claustrophobic.

Exceptional movie. I have watched it dozens of times. Never gets boring.
