I recently got a good degree in environmental health. But at the moment there is no/little jobs as an environmental health officer (were the money is really good, 38k a year)

So im stuck looking for a job thats going to pay about 28k max and its pissing me off cos my GF didnt do college and got a job is earning over 30k a year now.

I just had to vent my frustration there, I just dont think it really makes sense?
What are other grads who come out of college earning in their various degrees?

Sure anything over 25K+ is great money! The serious money starts coming in after those first 2 years.

Previousa posters are right. The start could be anything between € 18 and 25k. The more experience you get, the more your college eduation will stand to you and in a couple of years, you will be see the benefits.

Those who go straight to work may be paid quite well comparartively, but generally the scope for large salary increases is fairly limited. They may find their pay stagnates at a certain point or that there is a glass ceiling over them in terms of promotion.

Your earning power is all about what YOU do, be it work hard, study hard. Both will get you where you want to be.

Ye once i get the couple of years of experience il be able to move up and get a better job.

Im just tryin to figure out which road I wanna take, food safety, health and safety or environmental.

Id be most competant in the food safety role but the Environmental role is which id prefer, although its the hardest area to get into to.
Should i stick to the area im good at or persue the area im most intrested in, although its the area i not most competant?

I remember the time when graduates were happy to get a job (and usually with a good bit of looking around) after that had finished their course  .

28k isn't bad at all for starting a job with little or no experience. And if your GF's earning over 30k without going to college you can bet your ass that she had to start on a measly wage and then put in a lot of hard work to get to where she is today.

28k is high for a graduate. I've just graduated, I'm in my first job, and I'm getting in the mid 20k's.

I know people recently graduated in the finance sector, who start a 3 year contract with major multinational companies on on 21k - despite having a 1.1 degree. That's the standard that's out there. You have to do time with the low pay, and work your way up. Common sense.

    check this site : http://www.indaver.ie/job_opportunities.htm

its a waste management company very big into environmantal / health safety buzz.

    could be worth a look.

tbh looking for 38k a year straight out of college is a pipe dream. its never going to happen mate. i just graduated and im contracting and it works out @ 36k a year but ive no job security and i work very hard + i have 4 years experience which i got while working thru college

id say a grad with a good degree and no experience in the kinda area your looking to get into would be between 22k - 25k

I tend to agree. I'm after graduating in engineering and would be delighted if I was offered a job starting at €28K, the more likely figure (from my experience) would be around 22 to 26 K.
