i've just built a new pc but i'm having trouble getting bios to recognise that i have a cdrom drive..
all cables seem to be correctly in place.. ide and power..
when i press eject, the drive pops out so i'm assuming it's working properly..
    any ideas?

AMIBIOS - Version 3.31a if that's any help..

Is the drive jumpers, little pins, set to Master (on the rear of the drive)?

    ah.. completely forgot about master/slave..
what should it be set to?
if i remember correctly, i need to take it out the jumper out completely?

Are the jumpers set correctly, if the drive is the only one on the cable it should be set to Master. If there is another device, one should be Master and one Slave.

Well if you have a second device, set the cd rom to Master. See the picture below, have one of the pins on MA and if you have another drive set that to SL

ok, as the cdrom drive is the only one on the cable, it should be set to master..

it was already on master so there is still a problem..

i tried setting the drive to slave also, but the bios still won't recognise it..

    any other ideas guys?

Are you getting the LED flickering or staying on all the time? Try putting it on the Primary IDE (same as hard drive).

    ok,
i have 2 ide cables, one reading 'cd-rom' and the other reading 'hard drive'..
my drive doesn't even eject when i use the 'cd-rom' ide cable..
when using the 'hard drive' cable, it ejects fine and lights up for a bit but like the 'cd-rom' cable, it's not recognised by bios..

i've tried every combination of ide cable/master/slave setting.. with all combinations bios isn't recognising the drive..

could this be something to do with the fact that i'm using a s-ata hd? maybe i have to change some bios setting for it?
i've never had this problem before but have also never built a pc using a s-ata hd before.. (i'm positive the drives are installed correctly though)

    whey, problem solved!

and after hours of confusion what could the problem possibly have been? ...the cable was inserted upside down..

usually there's a feckin' notch on one side of an ide cable which forces the cable to be inserted only one way.. however, my cable could be inserted both ways

thanks for the help all the same..

Hehe, I've done that a few times myself but didn't think of it this time. :)
