    Hi,

I have a 98 Golf 1.4 base and I just failed my NCT as one of the rear passenger doors (On the passengers side) decided not to unlock on the day of the test.

I'm just wondering what may cause one door not to respond to the central locking (Being done by the key into the drivers door and not by remote control) like this and how much I should budget to get it fixed (both main garage/non main dealer machanic.

    Thanks

I'd say the door lock is knackered. This is a common fault in VWs if that age. It was a bit of epidemic in 1997 - 2000 VW Passats and to a lesser extent in Golfs. Bang the door with the side of your fist where the lock is situated - this sometimes opens it.

I know a garage in Dublin (north city) who will repair it for a reasonable price. PM me if you want details.
