What's the story with the Mitchelstown bypass? 80kmph! Been asking around and the only answer I get is 'money-spinner'.

is there a toll-plaza planned for it?

No..Why the hell would it be a money spinner. The relief road itself is only a short measure until the more direct eastern bypass is finished in 2009.Once this bypass is finished you could turn off the motorway before Fermoy if you wanted to avoid the toll.

Money-spinner for the Gardai. No one does 80 on it, and I find it hard to know why there's an 80 speed on it anyway. It's a farce really.

80km/h for several reasons. New road: People need to get used to the amount of roundabouts on it. Steep gradients leading to roundabouts with high traction approaches to stop people from riding the roundabouts (Cashel bypass great example!). Speed limit to help trucks merge easier with traffic and to discourage trucks from running to limiter speed (90kph), steep decent and sharp bend heading into second roundabout coming from Dublin, causing a lot of front right wheel pressure especially in a fully loaded rigid. Many people out walking the bypass in the evenings. Reduced speed limit is easier for them to cross the road....

pain in the arse tbh.. I'd rather go thru the town. single track road with an 80km/h limit. To add insult to injury they also spelled Cahir incorrectly! Pff, noobs...

Dunno who fecked that up but the 'official' word is. They read it from an old map and its old Irish - way to worm outta that cock up. And the camber on the roundabout was a cock up as well, wait till someone that doesnt know the road hits it at speed  Knightrider without the speacial effects!

If there are roundabouts on it, then the speed limit will be lower.

Try the new road to Ardkeen when you hit Waterford from the Cork side. There are circa 7 roundabouts on it, and a 60 kph limit. It's mental!
