    Sitjaipetch Camp Pattaya Review

This weekend (5th Aug 06) I travelled to Pattaya in Thailand to do some Muay Thai training at Sitjaipetch Camp which is owned by the top Muay Thai fighter to come out of Ireland and World Champion Craig O Flynn from Cork.

First off, Pattaya is probably the wildest and most crazy party place in the whole world, and I’ve been to lots of crazy places in my time. Often training would be the last thing on your mind when in Pattaya for a weekend, so this time I decided not to go on the beer, but to devote time to training and improving my Muay Thai skills.

Pattaya has no shortage of Thai camps, some are tourist orientated, where people passing through might do a few Thai sessions, just to say they did some Thai in Thailand and of course there is the serious camps that breed top fighters and champions.

Sitjaipetch Camp is a serious camp, and is run as a proper Muay Thai camp. In fact Craig has one fighter a Japanese guy who is there 3 years training, who is going for a World Muay Thai Title on the 20th of this month. And of course there is a few top Thai fighters there too, plus juniors he is training up for the future.

The camp is located right beside Jonteim Beach in Pattaya., so training runs by the sea are very nice! And has all the facilities a good Thai camp needs.

One thing in my experience now I am 8 months in Thailand, is many of the Thai camps, while there have great fighters, are not great at teaching you. See, they all train since kids, so it seems difficult for them to explain the finer points.

Here is Sitjaipetch Camp, I had the great advantage of Craig, explaining the finer points to me, correcting bad habits I had developed, and spending some time in improving my technique, and giving me new training ideas.

There was a few Irish lads there training, and a few French fighters. Indeed many top French Muay Thai fighters come to this camp to train for fights.

There is plenty of experienced Thai Pad men and trainers to bring you along too.

This camp has a brilliant atmosphere and everyone who comes to train or stay at his camp is treated as “family” which is the Thai way of doing things. This is real nice, and I felt very welcome from the 1st minute I walked into the camp. Plus we all had a night out at an all you can eat Thai restaurant for under € 2 !!!!

The camp is located near the beach, 2 mins walk, and 5 mins from centre of Pattaya.
There is loads of things to do outside of training time, and the camp staff will show you around, and show you were the best value in prices is and the cheapest places to eat, if you are on a tight budget.

All in All, I would give Sitjaipetch Camp 10/10, and Craig O Flynn has an amazing track record as a fighter, is a top instructor, and one hell of a very nice guy too!

Conclusion, is I intend to travel down every 6 – 8 weeks for a few days of extra training myself, as I can see a brilliant opportunity here for me to improve my skills and training, and have someone who knows Muay Thai to expert level explain to me in English what I need to do!
I have a great clip of a one of the trainers hitting the pads.
Watch for his 3 and 4 kick combos…amazing!

Here is some clips of me, getting a lesson from the pad man.

I am not Tony Ja , but you can see the camp a bit on this clip!

If you are coming to Thailand, I really recommend you consider Sitjaipetch Camp
Look at http://www.muaythaiireland.com/ under the Thai camp link, and of course they got a sister camp in Cork… like!!!!

I was gonna start a review of the place Im training in at the moment but I thought, in the interest of tidynes, id throw my review on this one! Im training in Tiger Muay Thai in Phuket. The camp is a mix of serious fighters and the tourists that come in for a day.

The camp is excellent. Your assigned your own Thai coach for every minute you spend training, be that bag work, sparring, or pad work. Ive felt myself come on leaps and bounds in 2 weeks not only in technique but in cardio and conditioning. In my first 2 hours my coach was able to tidy up my messy round kicks!

The coaches are nice guys...when they are not training you! When they are they scream, shout, spit, bite (ok i made that up!), growl, etc etc. Its a bit like being back at school! They regularly push you to the point where you can feel the lactic acid creep up your throat! The downside is your permenantly exhausted, so you sleep maybe 14-16 hours a day.

Phuket town (where the nightlife is) is a grotty nasty joint, and so training is no1 on the agenda. Although gettin tanked is crazy cheap and always tempting on the weekend! For 1st timers to thailand i would definatly advise the place; however if your a advanced fighter there are better places.

    (Wayne you have pm man!)

    Hi Gerry,

You mentioned that you would like to try Wing Tsun sometime. Not sure how far it is from you but there is a Wing Tsun & Escrima school in Koh Samui. Website is www.wt-kohsamui.com. They also have seminars in Muay Thai, BJJ and some of the instructors even come from Krav Maga backgrounds. Don't know how good they are but maybe worth checking out.

    Regards,:)
