Tickets Problem

    Hey all,

The tickets for the rugby internationals were on sale yesterday to the supporters club.

I joined the club a few months ago for €50.

Yesterday I spent around an hour trying to buy 2 tickets, eventually I got them....filled in my details, paid by credit card.

I never got a confirmation e-mail so I got in touch with the IRFU, and gave them my reference number.

They got back to me to say that there was a fault in the system and that my transaction didn't go through. They said the matches are now sold out, sorry!

Do I have any backup for this situation or is it just tough sh1t? After spending €50 to join the supporters club so that I could have a chance to get tickets, then spend an hour trying to buy tickets....I'm a bit p**sed off!!

Moved from AH in the hope that the Rugby fans can shed some light on this or tell of similar experiences and what can be done about it.

I honestly think you're out of luck. It comes down to your transaction not going through at the end of the day, so it's just like you not placing the order. You won't be billed for that order, but you won't get that 50 euro back for joining a club. I'm guessing you had to join a club to be eligable to buy tickets to a game?

Have you got anything to show that u bought them? If you do you should contact the branch again by email, try again

    Hey,

Yes, you have to join the supporters club to get the tickets.

The only thing that I have is the reference number for the transaction.

So wait, on your end the transaction went through? That's well strange if they don't have any records of it, giving that you got a reference number - even if they had technical issues, but seeing as you got no confirmation email (and I'm guessing you have no bill for it on your credit card?) then it didn't infact go through. Did you ask them if anyone else had experienced similar issues, or did they explain what caused the fault, or what the fault actually was? I'd be asking to be compensated in some way if I was you.

I agree with sjones, seek some sort of compensation. You should have your tickets!!

If you want to join any sort of club, it should be a rugby club. At least then you can help at the grass roots to develop the sport and will be in with a good chance of tickets.

IMHO the supporters' club is a cynical ploy to generate even more money.

Nobody forced people to join the supporters club.

However if one of the "advantages", as advertised by the IRFU is that by joining such a club you have first dibs on international tickets, then they should ensure that they look after the supporters club members. You probably should have phoned them sooner with the referance number i.e. as soon as you finished the online transaction and hadn't received a confirmation, as it would appear that you left it too late.

Unfortunately there seems to have been a technical problem here, which I would imagine whoever is in charge of ticketing in the IRFU has no control over. There's probably nothing you can do I'm afraid.

Is it possible the email address you provided for the transaction was wrong?

    Hey all,

I couldn't ring them straight away because I was in the depatures lounge in Shannon when I booked them and I had to run the to flight after I booked them...I'm now in the states.

I agree that the supporters club is just a money spinner but if it's what u gotta do for tickets....so be it!

The e-mail address I supplied was correct.

What's worse is the tickets were for 2 matches, the South Africa match and the Pacific Islands matches are linked, so I'm missing out on 2 matchs!!

The reply I got from the IRFU is as follows:
    Dear Jamie

I have checked with the booking engine and it appears as if there was a fault in the system and your booking was not completed to payment stage. I am very sorry but your booking did not go through and unfortunately all tickets are now sold out.

    Yours Sincerely

    The Irishrugby.ie Team

As I said, there's probably very little you can do. They have not charged you for the tickets so technically they're not obliged to provide them. I would imagine they have something in the small print about problems/faults in the system like this.

It's just one of those things that you've to learn from I guess. Just stay on the look out for tickets and hopefully you'll get 'em. I know it's probably no consolation, but you'll probably pick up a ticket, or two to the Pacific Islands game nearer the date.

I was in a similar position. I joined the supporter's club on the premise of getting first dibs on tickets. IRFU say the supporter's club is not all about tickets - but, in fairness, most fans didn't trump up €50 for a beanie hat and a keyring!

Tickets and prices were listed in the marketing material for the supporter's club on their website and elsewhere. But, when tickets went on sale, only the top-price stand tickets were made available. The fact that the server used by IRFU for access to those tickets was woefully underpowered to cope with the demand just added to the frustration of many supporters.

I won't be doleing out cash so easily in future!

In comparison, the Leinster and Munster supporter's clubs are in a position to offer a much more concrete possibility of tickets to games. (Obviously, there's more games involved - which makes things easier for them.)

Sorry for ranting. OP, I'd say you've got absolutely no chance of being compensated for the tickets you thought you'd bought. If no confirmation email issued, there was no confirmation that the transaction had been completed.

first of all supporters club means up get first dibs on excess tickets.Join a rugby club for actual first dibs on tickets..All clubs are alloacated about 90 per cent of all ticketing.50 euro is a complete money spinnner for a supporters club when you can join most clubs as a pavilion memeber for 100 euro and have a real chance of getting tickets.

Join a club and get tickets seems a bit simplistic to me. I don't know many club players, but the few I do know would not be given the option for tickets, if they did not play, and play regularly at that. Is that an unusual scenario?

That doesn't sound unusual at all. From what I understand, joining a club doesn't do much for access to tickets at all unless a) you're a first-team player, or b) know the people in the know about tickets, or c) your father and father before were also in the club!!!

    Agreed.

It's a matter of who you know in this situation, as it always is. It's a complete lottery really.

    Hey all,

Just got an e-mail from the IRFU.

    Dear Jamie

I have re examined the ticket situation for your ref T219**** and I am pleased to confirm we can arrange tickets for you. There was an error in the system which we have now rectified.

Can you confirm this is your order:

Ireland v South Africa and Ireland v Pacific Islands

2 West Upper Stand - Price 1 package

Thanks for the advice and stuff lads....

    ....A Happy Ending...(that I didn't think would happen!)

    Nice one, Jamieh.

Enjoy the games (and spare a thought for those of us unlucky enough not to get tickets!!)

That's great news, glad to see they didn't just fob you off and leave it at that.

Hope the matches are good now :)
