Heard a figure tossed about that the USA, on the average, has a war or major conflict every 15 years since its founding. Does this sound realistic?:eek:

This is leaving out the incalculable amount of iraqi military killed in the invasion. an army that numbered over 700,000. it also doesn't include insurgent deaths and deaths of non iraqi nationals. an estimate of 200,000 although not provable is very concievable.

Insurgent just means someone who revolts against an established power. it carries no other conotations. good or bad.

War is the natural way for human beings. There is no way to stop it, seriously. Somewhere someone is going to start a war. So my message to you goddamn hippies who try protesting against the war is to shut the f**k up because you are getting nothing done and just pissing people off.

Also, showing pictures like that does nothing these days. EVERYONE is de-sensitised to that sort of thing.

What is your problem with this number?

The 'official' death toll as given by the US officials recently stood at 30,000. But other sources including retired senior army personnel, soldiers who have served in Iraq, and international aid agencies such as the red cross have insisted that the real figure is almost certainly far higher. I saw a video interview with a soldier who had seved a tour of duty in Iraq and he claimed the death toll figures being reported in the media over here grossly underestimate the reality of what's happening on the ground. A figure of 200K may or not be accurate but we can take it that the death toll so far is probably considerably higher than the 30K reported by the US government.
