NTL Channel 4 Reception

Was just wondering if somebody might be able to help me fix the awful reception of Channel 4 on the ground floor of my house. Upstairs, the reception is fine, but downstairs channel 4 and E4 are so snowy that they are almost unwatchable. I have the most basic ntl cable package because I also have SKY digital and just want NTL for Setanta and Channel 4. I've moved the same small tv with the same cable around my house and as I said above the reception and sound of just channel 4 and E4 are atrocious downstairs and ok upstairs.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

First, make sure that C4 and E4 on the downstairs TV are tuned to the correct frequencies. In some areas of Dublin, especially around Tallaght and Terenure, NTL have them running on the UHF band where it will be perfect for some, but crap for most.

So tune along the VHF Band 1 for C4 on 56MHz and E4 on 64MHz.

Secondly, if you have the cable split yourself to feed the second TV, check all connections. Any cheap connectors, cable or splitters will allow interference to penetrate the cable and the C4 and E4 channels are among the most likely to be affected. You need to have fully screened equipment, i.e. no plastic connectors or splitters and proper double-screened cable.

However if the split is an official separate NTL point that you specifically pay for, the just call NTL for a service - it's free.
