Help needed on a new computer spec

    Hello

I'm trying to spec out a PC for my brother but am, unfortunately, no expert.

He is looking for a general purpose, fairly power and future proof computer. Gaming is not an issue so a graphics card powerful enough for Microsoft Vista and general picture editing or video editing is enough.

I'd appreciate if ye could look at my specification and see if...
    1) Everything is compatible
    2) Anything is missing (except for a monitor)
    3) If money would be better spend on another part/component

Also, I just took a guess on the case. Is it compatible with the motherboard? Is the power supply with it ok? Do I need a fan or is there one on the case or motherboard?

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks,
    JP

Should be fine, although there are no graphics cards that are true vista ready at the moment. Also Vista is a huge resource hog on the ram, so he may want to upgrade it to a minimum of 2 gigs when it is released.

Ya get crappy psu's with a case. Buy case without psu + add psu. Antec, Seasonic or Ocz are v reliable psu's.
That ram comes with 1yr warranty, Get good brand & you'll get lifetime warranty. Ocz, Crucial or Corsair etc.
Conroe comes with heatsink & fan. No other cooler needed.
Case will have fans, look for 1 with good airflow, 120mm fans etc. Google for reviews of cases.
Windows Xp? Do you have a retail copy. Oem copies cant be installed in new hardware.
    Looks good otherwise.
    Good luck.

Get a dvd-rom as well. Handy for disk to disk copying. Only nother E20+. Might as well while you're payin for postage anyway. :D
Your gonna need a floppy to install sata drivers when you install xp. If you don't buy 1, maybe line up 1 you can borrow.

Why dont you get the TwinMos Dual Kit instead of two seperate 1GB sticks?

I thinks its a few euro cheaper as well and your guarenteed to have two matching pair of ram.

I'd go for a Antec Sonata II case instead, comes with a 450W antec PSU.... case is very quiet.... so quiet you could go hunting wabbits.... if yer name was elmer fudd

I'd ditch that Antec case ... way to expensive and it doesn't look anywhere nearly as good in reality as it does on those piccies. It also requires you to put the PSU in at the bottom which may cause some complications. You might want to go for the APlus Qubic Black case instead, about €80 cheaper but it still very much does the business.

You should also add some case fans to that shopping list.

I got this case, expensive, but it comes with 4 fans, 120mm fans front & back and 90mm on top, and a fan on hd cage. Its also designed for watercooling. Its huge.
