Sound outputs on front of case

I recently installed a creative soundblaster audigy 4 sound card. previously i had onboard sound.

    my old setup was:
speakers plugged into back of PC
headphones with mike (for skype) plugged into side pors on case.

    this worked.

since i put the new card in, they dont work at all, instead now, theres a bit of a crackle if i turn the headphone volume up to full. if i remove the soundcard, they work so they're obviously not broken.

any ideas? should i have the onboard disabled inthe BIOS? does it auto-disable on insertion a new sound card? any help is appreciated. thanks.

They are probably trying to use the same IRQ and conflicting, try and disable onboard sound in the BIOS.

ye i was t hinkin thta. i jsut disabled it there anyway. still no change. im tihnkin i might have to hook the wire from the side panel to the mobo, to the sound card directly? tho there doesnt seem to be any matching port/slot on he sound card.

That sounds like the right idea alright, is there an audio cable connected to the CD ROM for sound?

well i can identify the sound cable comin from the side panel into the mobo, but theres no space ofr it on the sound card itself so i duno.

ye im pretty sure i connected the cable from the DVD-RW to somewhere. lemme just open this thing and double check...

ye that grey cable is alos plugged into the mobo.

on the sound card theres a 4 pin connecter which might actually be for the grey DVD-RW wire. theres also a longer connector with maybe 8 pins on it. not sure what thats for either.

ill see if i can dig out the DOCs.

    they're the 2 culprits.

as u can see from the mobo pic, I have the side panel plugged into the side panel port thing on the top left. the DVD-RW wire is plugged into the port below it.

i cant seem to find any configurable options in the sound card sfotware to let it use the front panel either.

    any ideas?
