    Hi,

Just wondering, I've been insured on the bike since last December, but never got taxed. Is it worth taking the chance on staying untaxed ( never been stopped ) or can I go in and pay arrears to get it up to date. I know its only about 60 euro, but been out of work and only now getting back on my feet financially.

    Thanks
    paul

Get the tax, save yourself paying 10 times the €60 when you get caught.

I've had my bike around two years and have been stopped about 3-4 times to check tax, so they do check for it.
It isn't a lot of money so just pay it.

They'll charge back till when the bike it last expired and then for the next year in advance so your probably looking at about 130

You will have to pay arrears and you will also have to sign a declaration that it was off the road. Declaration has to signed or stamped in a garda station.
Shouldn't be any problem, but it is 8-9 months...

You don't have to pay arrears with a signed and stamped declaration of non-use. Bikes are the sort of thing that could easily be off the road for long periods of time so no suspicion should be aroused in the Garda. I'd be heading to my local station to save myself 50 quid.

Just so people know. You can get it decaled off the road and dont need to pay arrears.

If you do not get it declared. Then you pay 7 euro for each month it is over due. As well as the Main Tax cost. You do not need to pay a year in advance.
