    Dear anyone,
I am trying to find a picture I saw in the Guardian Weekly in 1988. It was of a soldier who had been killed by a mob at a funeral in Ireland. I have only seen this picture once and I am trying to use it (if I can find it) in an art history assignment at Latrobe University in Australia. I have been in touch with the Guardian Weekly but they have not answered. The photo was significant as it has a sense of crucifixion about it. Can anyone help?:Rapa@707

I'd get on to the Guardian again. Maybe give them a call instead of emailing them. They're usually fairly helpful about things like this. Other than that I can't see how you'd find it unless you happen to stumble across it.

Quite hard to find, the only place I would think of a chance to get it would be on a site called www.ogrish.com it's a really gory site and you will have sleepless nights if you stray off subject. Go to the forums and make a request. Just another warning the site is very graphic :(

I know you can request past articles from the guardian (kinda like an interlibrary loan) and they are quite quick to respond.

I can remember the pictures you are talking about.

At the time it happened on a Saturday and the day after all of the Irish Sunday papers carried the pictures.

I remember very clearly looking at the Sunday World and they had all the pictures i remember the final one in the sequence with the Priest leaning over the body on the street saying a prayer into the ear or the dead man.

I think if you contact the Sunday World they should have them!

Recently saw a couple of photos of the shooting at the IRA Funeral in 1988 at the Magnum Ireland exhibition, might be the same funeral you are referring to?!

Here's the link to the photos on the magnum site anyways ...

If it's the same funeral you might be able to track it down easier knowing it was the Michael Stone incident.

    Hope that helps.

I think the one he is talking about is the funerals of the people who were killed at the funeral that michael stone attacked. That was the one where the plain clothes soldiers drove at speed into the cortege and the mourners mistook them for another loyalist attack.

Yeah, he's talking about the soldiers who turned the wrong way in their car, were stripped of their clothes and shot.
I was in Amateur Photographer recently, with an interview with the photographer. I'll hunt it out for you.
