Jamie Gold seems like a nice guy. He breaks up a little here talking about his Dad.

So, here's hoping he wins it.

scroll down a little and there's an interview with him on this page.

edit: oops! didn't know there was an Irishman left in it!
    er... come on the Irish....ahem.

You're too good natured Doc. He's a Hollywood agent/producer, so it's not like he really needs the money. Personally I hope John Magill gets ALL his chips.

he's getting a fierce bashing on the antes up forums at the minute.
    http://www.antesup.com/boards/showthread.php?t=551&page=13

everybody seems to be hopping on the i hate jamie gold bandwagon at the minute which i think is a little unfair. in any of the interviews i've seen of him so far he seems very likeable and humble. he also came across on cardplayers "the circuit" really well the other day when they had a quick interview with him.

my top 3 in order of preference for the win are:
    1. John McGill
    2. Allen Cunningham
    3. Jamie Gold

I think he's one of those very enthusiastic Americans with the whoops and hollers that come with it. Probably a decent bloke but maybe comes across as a bad winner on occasion.

From watching him play Ill hop on the i hate jamie gold bandwagon.

seems to me he is playing great. what do you expect him to do? not bully the table with his MONSTER stack. he has sucked out once or twice but thats going to happen when you play nearly every pot. he's also getting hit in the face with the deck apparently but somebody has to. i've been really impressed with him so far. this hating on him is really starting to piss me off. nobody even knows him.

    From Gutshot:

Jamie (Gold) rushed over to shake Einhorn's hand. Jamie has been on his best behavior today, though it appears as though he's forcing it. You can almost see him laughing inside everytime he goes to offer his sympathies to those players he knocks out. When Jamie walked over to his mother she was overheard laughing,''No more money for charity! Guess they're out of luck! Hahahaha!!!'' Melissa Hayden, friend of Allen Cunningham, also overheard the conversation and looked like she might throw up. Although Jamie has a large cheering section of friends and family, it seems as though every other person in there (including the camera guys) are hoping to witness his demise.

Gold is involved in the TV / Film ent industry. By definition this makes him an asshole.

    I should know :D

The two most disagreeable people I've ever met (and I've met some real Arse-holes over the years!) were both involved in the same game as Jamie over in LA, both self-absorbed idiots. In my experience, LA + entertainment industry = probable scum

I think we have a few Bodog players here. Anyone play against him (his handle is "goldfather")?

firstly that was his mother that said that not him.
secondly, the bit about him laughing inside when he shakes the guys hand - well wouldn't you? is anyone ever REALLY sorry if they knock someone out?

oh and the bit about him probably being an asshole because he works in the entertainment industry, that's just pathetic. seriously, i'm really surprised by this, especially on a forum of this caliber. so far i have seen absolutely zero reason to not like him. you're all a bunch of begrudging bastards.

EDIT: that link doesn't work lenny by the way

Well, it is just a generalisation, as most people I've spent time in proximity to in LA (and in Vegas, as it turns out!) who worked in the industry over there were arse-holes, included the two biggest tools I've ever encountered. I'm sticking to my prejusticed view of the chap!

OT, the ability to judiciously construct and apply generalisations is one of our most important abilities! :)

In fairness I know nothing about the guy and have no feelings on the topic one way or another. But all the guys who are in Vegas and have been watching the ME seem to have the same opinion, including Bohsmans post above.

I'm only sick and degenerate, but I'm not good enought to deserver the gambler slur! :)

The percentage of assholes in the ent industry is much higher than anywhere else. And in LA that percentage shoots right up. There are not many ent professionals who wouldn't agree with this view.

So the reason I choose to dislike Jamie Gold [Hate is too strong a word] Is it saves time.

haha, fair enough then. i'm not doubting it, i'm sure there are more assholes per head in LA who are ent execs than anywhere else, it just was bugging me a bit that everyone had written him off before he had a chance to prove himself. doesn't matter anyway, chances are he is - we've had 3 good ambassadors for the game in the last 3 years running. variance says he has to be an asshole. here's hoping alan cunningham wins it.

I wasnt talking about him winning hands, it was his manner at the table while winning them. the quote from the runner up when they shook hands at the end was classic.

I watched him for about 20 minutes and he irritated me a lot. There were several hands where he had no decision to make but took forever to fold when everyone knew he would. There's no doubt he seems to have a talent for being table captain and his style could certainly force a lot of players to make mistakes, but he didn't appear to have much class. As for his poker abilities it just seemed like the deck permanently hit him in the face. The 23 hand is beyond ridiculous.

None of us have seen his cash play, any half decent player will take two different approaches to Cash and tourney play.

Let's not forget, he has Jonny Chan "in his corner" who has was at the table for much of season 1.

I'm sure he will have some invuluable information he may well share....

IMO the best player at the final table did not win but that's the nature of poker, the best player often does not take 1st place.

The best player does not always take home the $$$ at the cash tables, just look at Elezras JJ call from Season 1, pure donkey play which paid off.......
