No such thing as 100% guarantees. There are lots of legit. software that includes adware or spyware unfortunately, or simply 'undocument features' that cause your machine to crash.

    "os sites" ftp://ftp.heanet.ie/
    freshmeat.net
    and above.

Firewall section there is a bit empty now that Sygate and Kerio you have to pay for.
New free entry: Comodo Personal Firewall. It's nice.

And may I suggest changing the Qucktime and Real Alternatives links to download pages that are updaed with fresh versions? Save you mods some editing, save downloaders getting old versions! :p

Sygate Personal Firewall 5.6 is still around here, just before Symatec swallowed it up. Its a free version and even though its not supported anymore or updated, I reckon is still one of the better ones available and seems to do the trick.

What three items did you download? And how can u be certain those applications were the source of the spyware?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,407 ✭✭✭gerky

they were responding heads, photo filtre, and dialupmon, i did the same scans before download and the were fine i suspect dialupmon was the dodgy item it was for one of the objects anyway as it was in the same file

look at zdnet, msn,cnet,download.com, sites from large companys reputable dont, have spyware, most sites leave cookies on your pc to track how many times you visit the site.use spybot sd,adaware, good firewall and you,ll be safe anyway,if you go to porn/warez sites then you,ll get spyware trying to get onto your pc.I heard even steam has a prog that sends alot of info back to main site.
