Can anybody help me install a Sky dish?

Help is not the right word. I really need somebody to do the installation for me. I'm in a ridiculous situation which I'll try to explain:

When I bought my house 3 years ago I signed up for a shared staellite dish in the estate supplied by Sky Conway. They also pipe cable into the house with channel 4 and a few other channels for an extra cost of €13 p.m. After finding that I hardly ever watch channel 4 I decided I'd cancel the cable service and just keep the sky digital and save myself €13.....only they told me I cannot cancel the cable service, if I did I would lose my Sky digital signal and I would also still be tied in to a contract with Sky and I would continue to be charged my monthly Sky subscription.

So, I rang sky and told them I need my own dish and they said no because I'm not a new customer and basically it's not their problem and go away. They suggested I try the yellow pages and find someone to install a dish for me. I've tried the yellow pages with no luck.

    Here are some details:

    1) I do not have a management company stopping me from mounting a dish.
    2) The house is a 3 storey terrace but other houses have dishes so I know it is possible. The dish can be mounted at the 2 storey level just like a regular house.
    3) The dish will need to be mounted on the back of the house and fed around to the front. I can go into the attic and drop the cable down to the level where the dish will be and feed to around to the front of the house thru the attic.

so basically all I am asking is for someone to mount the dish and point it in the correct direction and do whatever signal tests are needed. Can anyone help me?? I've been stuck in this predicament for months now and my next step is to cancel everything and have no TV as there is no NTL or any other alternative....please help!

sorry I should have mentioned I live near Sandyford, Dublin 18.

I have talked to a couple of that list who were originally willing to do it but then changed their minds. One said he won't do a 3 storey house (even though I want it mounted at the regualar 2 storey level). The other was put off by the fact that I'm on a shared dish and said there must be a management company and kept calling it an apartment.

    I live in a house.
I want it mounted as high up as you feel comfortable, the regualr 2 storey level is fine.
I am not under the control of a management company.

There must be somebody on here who can help me out, maybe even know installers who are looking for a nice easy nixer?

Why not try it yourself? Do you have a sky box? If so, all you need is a dish. You will find a retailer in that list.

With a little time and patience, you could get it set up. Just get your self a compass.

If you do not have a sky box, maybe you should go FTA. I use satellite.ie for all my satellite needs, good service, good delivery and good prices.

Thanks but I'm looking for an installer to fit one. I spoke to satellite.ie and he originally offered to install it but then had a problem with the 3 storeys, but as I said I just want it installed at a regular height. He refused anyway.

There seems to be some misunderstanding here,I was in the states when i replied to you so my apologies if I misunderstood. Are you sating that you drop the cable from the attic soffat down one story to where the dish goes ? Is this wall south facing? The job may have been refused because theres no way to fix the cable between the 2nd and third stories or the wall is not south facing. If you like I can PM you the number of our engineer in your area and he could take a look and see whats feasible perhaps?

    Hi Tony,

I probably didn't explain things too well, sorry for any misunderstanding. Other houses in the estate have the cable fed thru the attic soffit vent and dropped down one storey. It is possible to drop the cable down within arms reach of one of the windows so that the cable can be fixed. The wall is south facing. It may be that it is not possible to get a signal and that is fair enough I will have to live with it. If you could PM me your engineers contact details it would be great.

    Thanks a million.
