Hijacked account?

    Hi

I bought a PDA on Ebay from a guy registered in Germany but with an address in ireland. he had 43 feedbacks (100% pos) but they were a yr old.

I was paying thro paypal but he asked specifically for a cheque.

I queried why and said i might have to notify Ebay about a change to the description/payment method.

he said the only reason was because he didn't undertand paypal and if I explained that would be fine.

Only thing in the mean time I heard about these hijacked accounts and wondered with the other transactions been so old would this be one.

His responses seem friendly and he gave his full address for the chq

I was thinking of crossing the chq and sending on and could then persue it fully, gardai etc if there was a problem.

the thing is if its all kosher I am getting a great bargain price .

If I went with Paypal which might delay things if he really doesnt get it (I do know in past I bought a few things from Germany and none used paypal) -
if there was a problem I'd not get my money back, right ? there isn't the "500e protection"
Into his case if I goot my credit card co to reclaim the money would that knacker me with Payapl in future ?

    thanks for any opinions/advice

True about not many people using PP in Germany alright. Any chance of a link to the item perhaps?

Hmm I'd be a bit suspicious of this one as the feedbacks are from so long ago but apart from that it looks ok to me.

generally hijacked accounts can be noticed by the fact that they sell loads of expensive units all at the same time
so u should check how many items he sold recently.
the pics scammers use are all taken from google or so
also they advice an external email address which is not the case here

i would say it looks ok, a cheque isnt that bad
i would get worried if he asked for something like wu straight away.

if he is in ireland why dont u ask to collect the item, even just to see what answer he gives u

    wouldnt touch it,
afaik, you need a paypal account connected with your ebay account in order to have that "pay by paypal" option.

    if he doesnt understand paypal,
    how did he get that?

however, you have about as much protection from paypal as you do with folding your cash into airplanes and throwing it to germany so its up to you.

Thought I should reply just to be fair to the seller

He posted the PDa same day as the chq cleared, registered post, received it next day.

    Brand new, un opened etc

And as i was throwing away the packing I final he included a 3yr extened warranty he bought for 80e, so a 299.00 Ipaq and 80.00 warranty for 118.00

    can't complain :)

Except i think work are supplying a pda/xda and i really should of bought a monitor !
