    2 Days, 9 Classes, 18 Races, 200 Cars & You!
The Phoenix Park Motor Races – 12/13 August
    FREE FOR SPECTATORS
The Phoenix Park Motor Races, Ireland’s most prestigious and longest running motor racing event is returning to The Phoenix Park, Dublin this Saturday and Sunday, 12th and 13th August, promising drivers and spectators a weekend of first class motor racing. (Please see below for traffic information) Cars will practice and qualify on Saturday morning from 9am and racing starts with Formula 5/UK Formula Vee at 11.50am. Sunday’s racing commences at 10.30am with the Porsche Class.
This year’s Phoenix Park Races are sponsored by the drivers and organised by the Leinster Motor Club with Ann Stevens as Clerk of The Course. This new found enthusiasm and co-operation between all classes, drivers and organisers has ensured that “The Park” has become a viable event to promote, run and finance. Nine classes will each have two races over the weekend including Fiat Punto Abarths, Fiat Puntos and Unos, Global GT Lights & Strykers, Porsche, Historics, Formula 5 with UK Formula Vee, Formula Sheane, Formula Vee and Formula Libre.
‘The Park’ is also being supported by a number of generous sponsors and partners including Dublin’s FM104, HB Icecream, Dunlop Tyres, Motorsport Ireland, Motor Racing Marshalls Club of Ireland, Gordon Kellett Motors, Linders Lotus, Manor Park Homes, Sony Playstation, O’Brien’s Sandwich Bars, Team PR Reilly, Topcon, Fina, CAT – The Rental Store, Abwood Homes, Autoglym, Mondello Park, Motors Inc, Sophos, Avon Tyres and The Sign Factory.
“The Park”, as racing drivers fondly call it, will always be special for a number of reasons; the long straights, the huge crowds, a carnival atmosphere and even the inherent danger of the trees.
The Phoenix Park Motor Races are the highpoint of every club racer’s season; they always have been and always will be. Today the Phoenix Park is totally unique in providing drivers the challenge of racing at a venue where so many of the ‘greats’ of motor racing history have raced over the same roads. Thanks to the Office of Public Works (OPW), long may this unique motor sport venue continue in use!
The races became non championship a few years ago and this has just added to the fun factor even more. Retired drivers often choose The Park for their annual come back, while overseas racers travel to Ireland to compete, having heard the stories of a great weekend’s racing over the years.
From a driver’s viewpoint, the track is totally different to anything they will experience anywhere else in the world. The combination of long straights, a second gear chicane and a really slow hairpin (first gear in some cars) at the Furry Glen, means that engine, chassis and driver skill are all required in order to be competitive.
From a spectator point of view, a fantastic weekend’s racing can be experienced in Dublin, for FREE! Plus there will be something for everyone in the family including the FM104 Roadhog and Beetlebugs, children’s face painting, the Playstation Dome, Classic Car Display, Fernando Alonso’s Renault F1 Car, demonstrations by Lotus, UK Pumas and Ford Capris, K-Mods Modified Car Display, The Kia Pitstop Challenge, Digiweb Broadband Roadshow and full catering facilities. Free tickets can be downloaded from www.phoenixparkmotorraces.org. Luas will be running additional services from Tallaght to Heuston Station on Sunday, 13th August to facilitate spectators travelling to/from the Phoenix Park Motor Races.
The Phoenix Park Motor Races will be televised by “On The Limit Sports”. Two programmes featuring 90 minutes of first class racing will be broadcast on TV3, Setanta Sport (Ireland & UK), Choras Sports and Motors TV in Ireland, UK and Europe.
    Traffic Information
Castleknock Gate will be closed on both days from 7.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. The Knockmaroon Gate will be closed from 7.00 p.m on Friday 11th August to 7.00 a.m on Monday 14th August. Road closing orders come into effect from 7.00am on both days.
