Problem with roof- No soffit

    Hi,

We have erected a story and a half timber frame house.
To cut a very long story short it turns out that when we go ahead and do the block work it will meet the end of the rafters. Therefore while we will have fascia we will not have any soffit. There are 3 As in the front of the house and a porch.
The look will result in the old farmhouse style roof. However that is not what we wanted. All this is through oour own fault by the way.
Is it possible to extend out the roof?

    I hope this makes since.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi,

Is there a reason why you can't strap extension pieces to the ends of the trusses ?

If you are worried about the pieces coming away from the trusses use two coach bolts in each one, it will take some time and timber but should work and won't cost the earth.

    Thank you,

I don't think there is any reason why we cannot do this. We just did not know what the best thing to do was. We had spoken with a guy who does roofing and he told us it was a big job and very time consuming.

    Thanks for your reply

It wil be time consuming but its a fairly straight forward procedure. If you got someone to start you off you could do this work yourself

Might be an ideal oportunity to form a bellcast on the bottom of the roof. Depending on your choice of slates or tiles.
