Oh wow, there really is some seriously messed up stuff in there, stuff you couldn't post on this board! You can read a lot of it on SomethingAwful.com if you aren't too sensitive.

I'm downloading it now ... Yes AOL is truly lame and I've always urged my U.S. friends and relatives to ditch it ... gonna tell them about THIS :D

Seems it wont load now, but anyway you may or maynot know this. But i heard rumours that BskyB are looking into buying out AOL. Dont kill me if this is old news but my gf came home from work ( aol ) yesterday and i actually listened to her about work when she came home. And that is what i heard.

There have been rumours of Time Warner selling various parts of AOL for a few years now and nothing has come of it yet. Wouldn't pay too much attention just yet.

I never thought a text file would bring my computere to its knees!!!

If your downloading this, make sure you have LOADS of RAM!!!

It took 2 mins just to do a word wrap, LOL!!!

To be fair, it does have around 20 million records :p. I'm just going to dump it into SQL Server and see how that handles it :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 534 ✭✭✭DonkeyRhubarb

Does anyone know the best program to open this with? In Notepad, its a mass jumble of information with very little format whatsoever.

Any tips on how to view it properly?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,780 ✭✭✭JohnK

I'd try WordPad since NotePad doesnt always format a document as it should. You'd be much better off trying to suck it into a database of some sort. Excel might be worth a try if you have nothing else.

You dont need to download. You can now search it online.

    http://www.aolsearchdatabase.com/

There was an interesting one about a guy having numerous searches to how to kill his wife.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 534 ✭✭✭DonkeyRhubarb

Looks OK in Access. Just doesnt show ALL the records.

Does anyone have a link to a free version of an SQL database?

I did a scan of this database.

Got a name and a location in one single search.

Put it into google and got his phone number in the directory.

This is how dangerous this database can be!!!

(Im glad Im a die-hard googler!!!)

Google does sell aggregate search information, but to be eligable, a search term has to be used many, many times, over a certain threshold. I don't think they go this far though.
