Such a hard choice! The Bash Street Kids were in the Beano. I used to get the Beano every week and my younger brother got the Dandy, I guess its the Beano for me. :) I have a few of the annuals as well.

I loved desperate dan and his cow pies too!

Which one was billy the whizz in?

He was in the Beano as well. I remember my brother got these stencil things with the Dandy one week and in one of the comic strips, Desperate Dan was going around his house drawing on the walls with these stencils. My brother thought this was cool and decided to do the same around our house! :)

    Snap!

For this reason I have to go with The Beano. I didn't ever like The Dandy, because it was always my little bro's comic.

I was a Dandy hater! I loved the Beano. Anyone remember getting some form of snappy paper thing that you folded up and whipped it and it went *SNAP*?!

Anyone else in the Dennis the Menace fanclub with the Dennis badge and the furry Gnasher badge too?

Don't forget Rodger the Dodger. :)

I started off with The Dandy and read it for years while my older brother (surprise, surprise) always had The Beano, eventually when he stopped reading it I switched because yeah, ultimately The Beano was better.

More of a Dandy-boy myself (as in comics). Found the bullies v sofies thing a little too repeditive in the Beano.

Did like Roger the Dodger though.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Minnie the Minx, Ivy the Terrible, Rodger the Dodger, Billy Whizz, the Bash Street Kids, Dennis the Menace... The Beano had all the best characters.

    preferred the Beano.

Slightly OT, but some of you may appreciate this...it's a story told by yer man from Viz comic in his book Rude Kids...

anyway - for a while they'd been running mickey take comic strips in viz based on characters in beano and Dandy...indeed some of the former artists from the DC Thomson comics were freelancing for Viz, and got a great kick out of using the DC Thomson drawing style, but having their characters say words like f*ck etc..

Anyway, the Scottish publisher got the hump about this and issued an injunction that Viz couldn't do this anymore, breach of copyright, passing off blah blah blah...so Viz went and published a new strip called "DC Thomspon the miserable scotch w*nker" and it featured a small man in a kilt going mad at percieved breaches of his copyright on the street...eg local fruit shop selling "little plums - 10p", or a woman castigating her son "Dennis, you're such a menace" etc...

Sure enough DC thompson decided this was a PR battle they couldn't win, and thus in the early 90's, for one episode ONLY, there was a return - on the pages of the Dandy - of The Jocks and The Geordies...(remember - DC Thompson - Dundee, Viz - Newcastle) where the perpetually sparring tribes were to settle their differences in an Art competition...

It ended with the Jocks winning for their clever and amusing stuff, and the judges sniffing (in the comic strip) at the Geordies for their "childish stuff about fat people who eat chips and a football player who's a fish"

the whole thing ended when Viz sent a notice of truce up north...but that didn't stop them putting on the front page of their next issue...

    Korky the C*nt...

Never bought either often but Beano clearly the better. I was a Warlord/Battle-Action man myself.

Beano.Especially the Bash Street Kids. Dandy was O.K., but only got it after the Beano or if the Beano wasn't in. Buster was good too.
Saw a Beano a couple of years back, and it looked utter s##te. Changed the drawing style and dialogue was annoying. Plug still looks like Peter Crouch though :D

Holy **** . I still have my memberships to both the Dennis the menace fanclub and to the dandy fanclub . The memory really brings me back . The memberships are in the back of my wardrobe in pristine condition 20 years later .. wonder if theyre worth anything...

Beano to be sure. Still have a massive collection in the attic at home, and some of the annuals as well. Ohh and one or two of the Dennis The Menace annuals too.

The Beano! I was affectionately christened "Vicky the Terrible" because of my love of Ivy the Terrible. I even had Ivy underwear, when I was about 5!

    Desperate Dan was King.

There are a few restaurants in the West Midlands near Dudley called Mad O'Rourke's Pie Factory (I don't know if they are still open). Their speciality is a "Desperate Dan Cow Pie", complete with two horns made of puff pastry. The pies are huge and delicious.

Beano all the way. Rodger The Dodger was the best, but The Bash Street Kids deffo had their moments.

    I have 2 anuals

Definitely the Beano. The Dandy forever played "The Famous Five" to Beano's "Secret Seven".
I used to be a big fan of Buster comics aswell. Are they still around?
