tenant tax relief-is it true

    is it true that tax paying children can claim this relief while living with their parents? the parent is thus the landlord and presumably can rent out one room tax free-subject to certain conditions.

    Provided they pay a market rent to their parents they are entitled to claim this relief

    however watch the effect on any social welfare payments that the parents are in receipt of, as the rental income, albeit tax free, may reduce the SW.

    As long as the rental income is below the rent-a-relief threshold which most are, its perfectly legal without affecting the parent who lives with the adult child.
