MMA is mixed martial arts. It's the only way to go and both Two Kings and Three Castles have excellent track records. The only question is which one to pick.:D

    Hey plobs,
The class itself makes little difference, just make sure they have real and dynamic sparring or you may as well join a gym. (at least you'll look good) Generally, you will only find this type of sparring at an MMA, Muay Thai, Western Boxing, Greco-Roman, Brazilian Ju jutsu or competitive Judo club, although there are a few teachers in other systems that have grasped the realism ethic, but sadly they are few and far between.

    Hope this helps mate,

    Haha can open worms everywhere.

    Seriously though...

I'd give the old MMA a try. I used to train at 2Kings in Firhouse which has a really friendly vibe and sometimes has MMA basketball matches if you're XTREME enough. Also got tapped out a lot recently by Dylan Costigan (from Three Castles) so I can strongly recommend his crowd.

Silat on the other hand... I'd give a crowd in town (edges posts here) as they seem like a reasonable sound bunch. I think they do Escrima aswell so they can offer a more rounded insight.

    All the best

    Colum

    Hi Plobs
Silat is the collective name given to the Warrior / combat arts of Indonesia and Malaysia. There are many styles of them and most are family based.
The main styles I teach is a Cimande style which comes from Java alongside an Malaysian style of Harimau Berantai.

These styles teach develop students to fight in all ranges of combat (which is something which we have in common with other martial arts) with the bonus of weapon training (blade and stick)..Cimande students train to defend against more than one attacker. Each student develops his natural abilities and the cimande training blends with this. This way each student is an individual. Silat offers an alternative way of developing yourself in Combat.

We cant offer you basketball, but I'm sure you would enjoy the experience. If you like more info feel free to asked.

    Liam
