Does anyone know soon can you expect to be called for your test if you enclose a letter from your employer with your application requesting a test for you ASAP?
Is it based on cancellations and/or will you get a couple of weeks notice?

I know someone who applied at end of april, got called at end of june and did test at start of august.
    2 weeks notice.
I got 5 weeks notice for mine.

Make sure your letter is very good as they can spot a fake a mile away.
Include a phone number and say that they can ring your "employer" if they need to check the legitimacy.
Also headed paper is an advantage.

An advantage?? - it's an absolute necessity. Otherwise anyone could do it and nominate a friend as the 'employer' that then can speak to if they wish.

PS - they usually require an official stamp also.

I got a letter from my employer and sent it along with my application plus blood money back in April/May for the test in Dublin
Got the usual 'we have your money, muhahahah!' letter. Phoned up about 3 weeks ago and eventually got through to someone who was really helpful. Looked up my details and she confirmed I was on the cancellation list and said to sit tight and I will get a mail when the test is coming up. Prob gona be slower than going into the normal queue knowing my luck :(

You are added to the cancellations list. You are immediately notified when a cancellation slot be comes available but this means that it could be on very short notice.

This used to work great a few years ago I befitted from it two,but then everybody started doing it and I don't think it works as well these days not in Dublin anyway as it seems every second application have a letter from an employer.

Think I got it in ~two weeks in Cork, the letter said I was going to be sent to the US & needed to be able to drive a hire car. Disappointly I didn't get sent there afterwards but at least it got me the test fairly fast.

I sent my application away with a letter from my summer employer abot 2 weeks ago and now I have a test in about 4 weeks;) If I hadnt sent in the letter I'd probably be waiting about a year as it is in Dublin.

6 months with a licence doin nothin except usin it for ID!!! Though I get pulled a lot less with the pink one. Bouncers are always suspicious of provisionals

    Fair enough.
A 'Troll' is someone who post something deliberately inflammatory in order to stir up trouble and have fun watching the fireworks.
    Read more here- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_troll

A cursory glance trough this forum will show a considerable body of opinion that many 'provisional' drivers have a rather blasé attitude to the laws regarding what they are and aren't supposed to be doing. Aided and abetted, it must be said, by the insurance companies and Gardai turning a blind eye to unaccompanied drivers, absence of L plates, motorway driving, etc.

In that light, coming on here and saying "i dont really mind if i fail it too much because then ill be able to drive on my own" looks to me a lot like waving a red rag at a bull.
In my opinion, stating that in spite of being demonstrably unqualified to drive (if you fail the test) you will be perfectly happy to ramble off on the public highway unaccompanied by a competent person, demonstrates admirably the blasé attitude I refer to above.

Best of luck in your test.

Wow Rovi, I hope you don't judge everyone so quickly.
To conclude that I have a blasé attitude towards my safety and that of other road users based on my post is completely unfounded, not to mention unfair. The fact is I would be perfectly within my legal rights to drive unaccompanied on my second provisional. It’s entirely your prerogative to disagree with the law; however that isn't the subject of this thread. More importantly the tone of your personal comments isn't constructive in the slightest. I suggest that before making drastically sweeping statements about the attitudes of provisional drivers one might examine the legitimacy and prejudices of one’s own.

    Thanks for the well wishes.

My apologies if my post appeared to be a personal attack on you, it wasn't intended. Reading back through it though, I can see how it might be perceived as such, so please be assured it wasn't written with that in mind.

    Hi

If you are going away IE oz for a year, you do not need a letter form an employer to get your test as an emergency test. If you request an emergency test because you going away and you will need you to drive when you are away the D.O.T. will give a test date ASAP.

Any chance you can cut out the SPAM?

You need to pay to advertise on boards.ie as far as I am aware.

SPAM is to indiscriminately send unsolicited, unwanted, irrelevant, or inappropriate messages, especially commercial advertising. This is what you are doing, free service or not your advertising. Something with I am of the opinion of you must pay for on boards.ie

There is no need at all for you to be cluttering every post you place on boards.ie with advertising for your site which is covered itself in advertising.

Edit to say to the OP & Mods sorry for the off topic post.

I sent in a letter from my father (who does have a company), and got the test in six months the first time, three months the second time. Both times I got about five weeks notice, even though i said I'd accept cancelations, which was just lucky on my part. I've heard of people getting just over a days notice.

DrivingInfo, why don't you put the link in your siganture instead of posting it at the end of each post.

Yes, drivinginfo, I am sure it is acceptable to put the link in your sig, especially as you are not selling anything.

What kind of proof do you need to apply for this emergency test & what kind of time line do you need, 3-6 months?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 232 ✭✭mcdonnst

Sure read this thread and you can see how many people are on the "cancellation list".
